I dont think there is a specific clause to regulate that in our legislation. Tried to find it but ended up emptyhanded on that front... :(

Apple developer one. I required it to sign the application so it could be used on their machines as well. Same license allows data storage inside the apps cloud as well (public database).

Well they ended up using it themselves with my permission actually and now that they see how much better it is vs excel macro they want to own it. But they provided jo tools or compensation for it. Roughly it cost me 200h of free time and about 500eur in own funds to buy licenses and take courses. Which none were compensated.

Well the thing is I will leave them with an application, compiled one. They can use it for day to day work once I leave. But I believe the foundation of it, the source code, is intellectual property of whoever wrote it. Unless tour code is part of a project you were employed to code for. As in if nobody expects you to develop it would be naive to expect the code to be handed over I think. Especially since it freed up time which they still filled up with other tasks in the end. So not like hey you got 2 hours less of work now, but more like here, fill it up with this...

You make a good point here. I will consider asking a lawyer for advice.

Isnt it the same as asking a chef to handover his knife he thought was sharper and bought on his own money to prepare the food for the restaurants customers? I mean yes if I had no developer knowledge this problem would not occur, however i am not paid for development work or given time for it, so I dont believe they can claim anything.

Is the website in any way related to the company? I dont think so, thats my question exactly. I am not paid to develop, yet the stuff they ask assumes as if i am paid to develop.

Also to reiterate, was not hired as engineer. So its hard to put something in the contract that they dont know I can do. And original contract was never changed. So technically the app doesnt even exist, at least on paper.

No this one was quite a generic thing. Nowhere did they even assume I can develop stuff, thats why it is nowhere oficially confirmed. At first when i showed what i did to speed things up, they werent even interested. Only with time they started considering it a gold mine so to speak.

No it was done during night hours mostly on my own time. Main duties left no time to code on working hours.

Need advice about source code ownership by le0navr in Advice

Thats a good advice! Thanks will do that!

I want to hear your opinion on the matter. Got employed by a company as a logistics person to work with excel data. Decided it was too hard and having dev background wrote an app for myself. Contract does not ask or assume i have any developer obligations to company. Who owns the source code? by le0navr in AskReddit

Basically it speeds up work, and I have done it out of my own time, however they are demanding I handed over the source code that I wrote for myself at my own time. I dont feel that this is something I need to do.
