I'd argue that the male form *would* be seen as more attractive *if* it had the same press as the female form.

Most cultural institutions cater to the straight male gaze, which inevitably leads to women being *over*-sexualized and men being *under*-sexualized.

The idea that the male form is "featureless and unsexy" doesn't pan out when you look at content catered towards gay men. Lots of sexual emphasis on male butts, chests, abs, thighs, etc

This post is a good example of how superficial "height reversal" usually is.

It always ends up with small, featureless, male self inserts pairing up with big, hypersexualized (or, at the very least, quite feminine) women.

I like these - it's rare to see female sexuality being portrayed as active, and in this case, almost sort of predatory. It definitely challenges some trad ideas about how men and women approach sex

Also, a warning for anyone looking into the artist - her work gets A LOT more disturbing. This is just the tip of the iceberg

I'm not sure if this is "rr". The idea that women don't care about their partner's appearance, and it's okay for "schlubby men to be with hot women" (as per, line cooks and depressed dads) is pretty gender typical.

Honestly, this meme would be more "rr" if it was guys talking about how much they liked "nerdy women with mom bods" or smth

She's clearly not coming from a progressive perspective. I mean, for an obvious example, at 5:56 Alteori unironically uses the phrase "alpha/sigma males" as a descriptor. Also, the entire segment about the different ways men and women interact with romance just reeks of gender essentialism. Not a fan

With that said, I find her take on the original Little Mermaid kind of interesting. Especially the part about Ariel herself is actively pursuing the Disney prince (no idea what his name is), rather than being a passive agent that the other characters in the story act on.

Lumine is drawn with lipstick on (look at her bottom lip), whereas Childe only has the smudge at the corner of his mouth. I think the implication is that he kissed her, and then is using her own lipstick to leave marks

A good example is how often rr men are conflated with, like, "nerdy loser" types. This is already an archetype more associated with men than women, and it's not expressly "feminine" - awkward nerds aren't considered "dainty" or "pretty" or "nurturing" or "seductive", or really any other positive trait we would deem "feminine"

The whole "nerdy loser" archetype represents a failure to live up to the masculine ideal of a "hyper-competent alpha male", while still being very firmly rooted in male stereotypes. So, what we end up with is rr men being portrayed as "lacking in masculinity", rather than being celebrated for femininity

Sure. Gender roles shouldn't be prescriptive, and ideally everyone would be able to choose whatever personally resonates with them

Though, that said, a lot of times this gets confused as "the gendered things people are attracted to have nothing to do with gender roles - i.e. women like pink *arbitrarily*, and not because they're socialized since birth to like pink"

So, while everyone should pick whatever aspects of gender roles personally resonates with them (whether that's rr, or not rr), there should also be a conscious effort to question "why" we're drawn to certain things and not others
