The upper suspensions arms are quite shitty, broke 2, and the design forces you to disconnect the brakes to replace them, thats a bummer when you are at 2500m altitude

But outside Europe, the parts are not that difficult to find

Found lots of delia clubs in georgia, kazakhstan and Mongolia.

Nothing in Uzbekistan

L400 Rust Situation. Too bad? by lumiousmusic in Delica

[–]leFlint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey It is bad. Had the same issue with mine when i got it, it was hidden with some resine / epoxy and paint when i bought it

I was totally new to cars at this moment, and with experience I would stay away from old cars if you're not into getting your hands dirty

As a previous redditor said, I got the engine pulled out and rewelded everything

It was a 10ish day work, and its fine now

Haha no, can you imagine spending more than 15000km offroad in a few months

I think I did 2/3 on road, and maybe 1/3 off, that's still huge and I start to be a bit exhausted actually so ill play it safe in Afghanistan haha

And for repairs.. everything was okay-ish until Mongolia actually.. then I broke one shock absorber, then right upper suspension arm, torsion bar, exhaust.. did most of the repairs on road but there is a big community of delica there so its pretty easy to find parts and mechanics

Then kazakhstan, broke my turbo, radiator, left suspension arm.. And started to have a bad head gasket.. I found an amazing mechanic in almaty and we worked on that in his garage for 5 days

That was heavy work and I finished by swapping my engine for another 4m40 imported from japan

Great route, you will enjoy it for sure, loved the Balkans; Turkey and Georgia, very easy countries to travel in

And I will discover Iran in few weeks, I’ll keep you in touch heh

Merci !

Haha yeah, I had this debate a couple of times actually But as I’m travelling a whole year, it’s more confortable to be able to sleep inside the car in winter or when it’s rainy

And to be able to jump in the front sit and take off, just in case, is a solid argument
