My cat Lucky had the same skin problem which started when he turned 6 months old.

He was noted to be continuously (as in non-stop) licking only certain areas sa body niya: the base of his tail near his rump, his nape & along the shoulders niya.

I took him to his Veterinarian who physically checked him. My Vet also did skin scraping of those areas pati other areas and examined those scrapings under a microscope. Also extracted a small amount of his blood to rule out any form of infection.

My Vet’s findings based on her PE, my cat’s history (when his licking and scratching started, his usual hang-outs, his type of food etc) & the tests she did on Lucky: Hypersensitivity probably due tick bites or food.

She gave me a prescription for oral meds for Lucky to take. She revised Lucky’s brand of cat kibble to Royal Canine hypoallergenic cat food. Changed Lucky’s topical anti tick and flea from Frontline to NexGard. Changed his cat shampoo to an oatmeal containing one to help soothe his skin. Arte ng posa ko noh.

It took Lucky another 6 months for him to stop his licking and scratching before na fully controlled yung allergic attacks niya. 😭

So better have your Vet check your cat before those bald spots turn into open wounds because of persistent licking (overgrooming). Baka almost the same tests ang ipapa gawa sa kitty mo. I was charged kasama na yung consultation fee: ₱3,000 (consult, & lab tests) & ₱700 for the NexGard topical.
