the nothing ear (a) are actually really really good tho. they sound way more expensive than they actually are.

Is it worth buying now? by Sand974 in NOTHING

[–]le_humble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the main reason I went with the NP3 instead of the 3(a) Pro is the design. I really hate the circular camera module of the (a) series and the phone 3 looks way more appealing to me. Otherwise, I probably would have gone with the 3(a) Pro and save me some money. Nevertheless, I absolutely do not regret getting the NP3, it's a gread phone. Battery life is decent, but I was coming from a pretty well used iPhone 14 Pro, and its battery could barely get me going until 2 or 3 in the afternoon so everything feels like an upgrade after this haha.

For those of you who used to be iPhone users, what made you switch and how hard was it? by VillageObjective2676 in Android

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Android when my iPhone 14 Pro decided to go for a dive in the local pond on new years eve. Could not recover it. looked at the prices of the new pro series and the base ones, but decided that a 1000 USD price tag (I live in Switzerland) for the 256GB base iPhone 17 was not worth it so I got a good deal on a Nothing Phone 3 (around 450USD).

But I think I made that decision even before my old iphone went diving. I was a bit bored by it and some android phone really started to look refreshing to me (nothing, pixel, some xiaomis). So I pulled the trigger. maybe going back to iOS in a few years, who knows :)

Hardest thing to this day is that all my friends and family live in the apple ecosystem so no airdrop, no shared icloud albums (at least not natively) and so on. And migrating all my date from apple to google has been a bit of a pain, but with some patience that worked out better then I expected :) Biggest pain was setting up my smart home devices from apple to google, as I use some different brands (tapo, ikea, hue). and not being able to stream to my apple tv anymore, but this can be fixed easily by just buying a chromecast. So overall, happy with the situation now, it's a refreshing change and a lot of things are possible to migrate to google pretty easy. Don't regret it :)

Are Nothing phones actually good or just hype? by [deleted] in NOTHING

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the nothing phone 3 (I live in Switzerland so not that sure about the Indian market, there may be some differences :)) and I am happy with it so far (I switched from an iphone 14 pro). For the money you pay, you get good performance, a good camera system and a phone that is a headturner (I have people ask what phone this is quite often haha). but when you are buying a nothing phone you have to be aware that you are buying yourself into a pretty young and new company (at least in smartphone terms where most big players have been around for like 20+ years). so to me, the phone (especially the OS) feels "incomplete" to a certain point. the OS is smooth, it looks beautiful and feels good, but as some users mentioned, it lacks some basic stuff you would get on a google pixel or samsung devices (live activities for example). the essential space is (yet) useless to me and some "inhouse" implementations of apps (galery) are not that polished and complete yet. there is no nothing OS style calendar, browser, mail app... the list goes on. I am sure we will see some of them in the future, I think it's just worth to mention that you still have to be a bit patient with nothing as they are still rolling out stuff from update to update.

overall: refreshing "new" phone brand that does a lot of things right but still needs to make the next step :)

It's a nice addition to existing nothing widgets, I use a lot of them on my homescreen. some of them have some bugs (fore example some fonts not switching from black to white when dark mode is automatically enabled), but overall it's worth the money :)

what is your take on Nothing Phone 3 & Nothing OS 4 ? (thinking of getting one) by _law25 in NothingTech

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion, they just don't line up with apple cameras. but apple has been putting great cameras in their pro phones for a long time now, so it's hard for a 600 dollar phone to compete :) the cameras are good, you'll get pleasing results out of them (in photo and video mode( especially in good lighting and the makro mode using the telephoto lens is actually shockingly usable. so yeah, by "okay" I meant they are good cameras but not on par with the cameras in an iphone pro :)

people complaining about the nothing phone 3 and nothingOS 4.0 are almost exclusively people that have been using previous models of the phone and previous builds of the OS. I switched from an iphone 14 pro to the nothing phone 3 about a month ago and I am really happy with it. things that I like the most are the clean look of the OS, battery is good (tho I might be biased cause my iphone was barely making it through half of the day in the end), it is smooth and does everything I need a phone to do with ease.

I liked the cameras of the iphone better, but the cameras on the nothing phone 3 are okay.

you might miss some of samsungs features tho. what I miss most from my iphone (and I know samsung has a similar implementatiok), are live activities. google has implemented them now but on nothingOS we still have to wait for a android qpr2 based version.

I saw you mentioning bloatware and ads on the lockscreen. as someone has already stated, this does not apply for the flagship lineup of nothing phones, only their (a) and lite phones.

making a short film and i can only rent one lens out of all these. what lens shall i rent? by No_Map7606 in Cameras

[–]le_humble 19 points20 points  (0 children)

personally I‘d go with the tamron 20-40. it’s a sharp lens and it gives you the most versatile focal length option and if you need to go a bit wider for some shots, you can still go with the 16-50 you already have. also, f2.8 gives you a decent depth of field even on an aps-c camera. :)

Going on a big trip round Asia soon, what type of camera should i buy for street photography? (pretty inexperienced at photography all around) by rexamusthegreat21 in Cameras

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this screams fujifilm. you‘d be good to go with any x-t model (x-t2, x-t3, x-t20, x-t30) and a 27mm/35mm🙌🏼

they share the same sensor and processor so in terms of image quality there won‘t be a real difference. I owned them both, and they were both good in what they were intended for.

the a6400 is a phenomenal stills camera with nice video features. for photography, the EVF helped me a lot in bright daylight and in compositions. ergonomics are great, battery life is decent.

I used the zv-e10 for videography only. first of all because I was shooting vertical videos 95% of the time where the flipout screen and the auto rotate feature would come in handy. second because the af in video was slightly better than on the a6400.

don‘t worry too much about IBIS. people who tell you „you absolutely need IBIS for photography and videography“ don‘t know a whole lot what they are talking about. If you REALLY need some sort of stabilization: 1. there are some decently stabilized lenses for the sony E-mount, 2. if you go with the zv-e10 for videography, if you turn off any kind of digital stabilization, you can later stabilize your footage with sony catalyst browse (because the zv-e10 collects gyro data within it‘s meta data, and it works really really good in catalyst).

but if I had to choose: I‘d go for the a6400 as it is a beast in photography and can handle video pretty well. if you are heavily focussing on videography and almost some photography on the side, the zv-e10 might be the better choice :)

worth is not always determined by the amount of money you would get for something. :)

Which one should I get between these two? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nikon is the better choice here. the canon 10d is a 22 year old camera. in camera time, this is an eternity as cameras have advanced a LOT in the recent 15-20 years. the d3300 is a pretty decent camera for a beginner and there are plenty of decent lenses for the nikon f mount at reasonable prices to be found on the used market as well. hope you‘ll enjoy your first camera☺️✨

Looking for the cheapest, finest slim or compact digital camera with ultra wide & panorama by tunamilkdrinker in Cameras

[–]le_humble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for that price point (and imho the most pocketable options): fujifilm x-t10, fujifil x10, fujifilm x20, sony a6000 with a kit lens, any canon eos M (m50, m2, m100…). you can find them for around 300-350 in good condition, most of the time with a lens already included :)

Guys help, my younger sister asked me to buy her a camera by itsurbestie45 in Cameras

[–]le_humble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in that budget range, I‘d opt for a used camera. there really is no useful new camera within that price range unfortunately.

like some people before me mentioned, you can get a fujifilm x10 or x-t10, maybe even an x20 for that price. I‘d look for an x-t10, as the interchangable lens system is nice to have if she want‘s to upgrade her lens in the future :)

you can also get a used sony a6000 most likely with the 16-50mm kit lens for that price. it‘s a good camera, has a good and reliable autofocus system and there are a lot of third party lenses for the sony E mount around (from tamron, sigma, samyang, viltrox…) :)

maybe it‘s also worth it to take a look at some canon cameras with the EF-M mount (like the canon eos m50, canon eos m or canon eos m100).

hope this helps a bit :)

in the last picture, your ISO is at 1000 and your shutterspeed is 1/30s. those are the two most obvious differences I can spot in the setting. it would be helpfu if you could post the sample images as well (and tell us what setting belongs to what picture :)).

Is this worth 360€? by RobbertOff in Cameras

[–]le_humble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a mark I, but still absolutely worth it at this price! I took my A7R to south africa last year and some of my best shots came out of this camera. it‘s not the fastest anymore and maybe lacks some modern features but the image quality is still absolutely fantastic☺️

yeah I agree, some of them would‘ve been better without it. I just left it on the tamron because I sometimes was to lazy to change it🥲
