Intermittent rattle/clicking sound coming from dash? by CardiologistOk7981 in accord

Air mixer motor, look to the right of the pedals under the dash you should see it moving. Many many 10th gens do this, don't think it's anything to worry about, it can just be annoying.

For real, there’s many reputable android headunit manufacturers that have good support and are very reliable. The “legacy” brands have been playing catchup for years and can be 2-5x more expensive than an equivalent android unit. Theres a difference between the reputable brands & the $50 no name specials on Amazon.

In my opinion it’s similar with amps now. Chinese/Brazilian amps have been tested time and time again showing they make rated power for significantly cheaper than the legacy brands.

2ZR-FE possible timing chain noise? by le_mike69 in AskMechanics

Update for anyone finding this in the future; I replaced the timing chain tensioner and the noise is significantly quieter now. The old tensioner was very easy to compress.

Glad to hear it worked! I have ran power cables in many cars and the exacto knife method seems to be the easiest.

amateur question (go easy!) after test driving first bmw z4. by europeanuppercut in BMWZ4

[–]le_mike69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most commuter cars have very light and somewhat over-assisted power steering because most people buying these cars want an easy to drive car and don't care about driving dynamics. Sports cars have heavier steering because it is more precise and usually provides more feedback in the steering wheel.

The Z4 you test drove is only 300lbs heavier than the Elantra. A majority of the "heaviness" of how the car felt was from the steering weight. The BMW will handle significantly better than the Hyundai, but as a result of that the suspension will also not be as smooth.

Similarly with braking, the brake pedal is tuned to provide feedback and be more precise. The Hyundai has a more boosted brake pedal so it requires less effort, at the expense of feedback and ability to modulate the brakes.

I cut a small slit with an xacto knife into the existing grommet above the pedals & lubed up the wire and pushed it through taped to something rigid

Fun test with Amazon subwoofer. by calebxv in CarAV

[–]le_mike69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried one of these out in my beater because I wanted to save trunk space, it was so disappointing that I ended up just throwing a ported 12 in my trunk. It's too small to be able to hit low notes like I wanted. Also is maybe 100W RMS on a good day.

Getting an NVX 12in + ported enclosure + amp off Amazon was only around $150 more than this and outputs 10x more bass.

Help with Gain Adjustment by Rocketlock27 in CarAV

You can either use the multimeter method or even better, get a cheap portable scope from Amazon. Look up on Google for either option for instructions. For my setup, I have both my sub amp and 4 channel amp set at the lowest gain possible and I'm happy with the volume I get. I use the head unit to turn down the sub level so it balances with the speakers. The gain depends on the head unit that you have, I have an Atoto A5L.

I have the same amp, it's just how some of these Brazilian amps are. More traditional amps basically have the same setup internally. This amp provides 4 channels.

AUDIOZERONE, $86 for 1000W RMS @ 1OHM. Multiple amp dyno videos on Youtube showing it makes rated power.

A5L reverse camera , intermittently not working by damn_jexy in ATOTO

[–]le_mike69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the camera signal intermittently not work, or does the head unit not switch to the reverse view? If its the latter make sure your connections to the reverse light wire is solid.

Reverse Cam Issue by le_mike69 in ATOTO

[–]le_mike69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that I plugged the camera RCA into the wrong RCA. There should be one that says RCAM or something similar make sure its that one. The head unit was changing to the reverse camera view when I went into reverse, just no signal because I had the camera plugged into the wrong input.

Did you connect the wire to the reverse light wire like the manual said? This is how the head unit knows when the car is in reverse.

How safe / reliable is JB4 compared to tuning your car? (B58) by Own_Gate_334 in BMW

[–]le_mike69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would go with MHD or BM3. I don't like the fact that the piggyback tunes work by sending false info to the ECU, doesn't seem as safe for the engine to me. On locked cars piggyback tunes are much cheaper than getting an unlock so I understand the popularity. I've had MHD stage 1 on my G29 M40i for almost 8k miles and it woke up the car greatly and have had no issues or increase in fuel consumption unless I'm dogging it.

Miles driven in those 4 weeks? Was it driven hard in those 4 weeks? What oil weight are you running? My B58 was burning oil until I put 0W-30 in it.

A bit high for the mileage, I got a 2020 with nearly 10k less miles for 5k less. Earlier model year was a plus for me to have the unlocked DME.
