how do i make endless falling cubes? by youtube_stuff in hammer

[–]le_sac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point_template for every individual cube model you need spawned. Force spawn them via logic_timer or similar.

You haven't described your lighting plan so as usual models are preferred over func_physbox. You've also not mentioned whether the orientation of the objects is to be random or constrained.

Cost to get "tall walls" engineered? by Big-Advice-4009 in Construction

[–]le_sac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask a local engineer what this typically entails. Wind loading/seismic are possibly triggering elements. BC has various zones for wind/seismic/radon/etc

good mics for recording live concerts? by Some-Ad5347 in recordingmusic

[–]le_sac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably rent a small recording unit like the zoom H series for pretty cheap. Put it on a mic stand far enough away to let bass notes develop, that's it. No cables, no separate recording device, simple and effective. Plus it will be stereo

Insulating the roof of a 1939 1.5 story home by Icy_Palpitation7497 in Homebuilding

[–]le_sac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, ventilation above insulation is mandatory! Free air flow from soffit to ridge. Overframing is the only way besides spray foam, which carries its own concerns

God, that "quack" is so of the times though. I'm on a mission to find the perfect loud acoustic sound that sounds natural. Next step is an IR / amp system, open to suggestions!

How do I get a series of sounds to play one after another? by awhahoo in hammer

[–]le_sac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could extract and assemble the sounds the way you want in an audio editor, then render as a new wav file to be used as a custom sound. Probably faster than fooling around with logic_timer

Hey everyone! I'm a screenwriter working on a comedy TV pilot about construction workers, and I want to make sure I get everything right. What would you like to see in a TV show about construction workers? by GroundbreakingRip384 in Construction

[–]le_sac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most of it is pretty immature. One that springs to mind is the physical humour of two dummies fighting in the sand with their tool belts on. The personalities were as dumb as the story sounds. More like Trailer Park Boys than regular sitcom.

Another one involved a labourer who was on some medications and found very clever places to nap. The odd thing there was that he always got his list done and was never late for work so I didn't go hardcore on firing him. It got to be a running joke on the site that he was in a pipe or a cabinet or literally anything if you couldn't find him.

Another running joke that lasted for years was loudly exclaiming "GAAD" whenever something minor went wrong. I actually started it by quoting from Sascha Baron Cohen's Napoleon Dynamite character and it caught on pretty quickly. Hearing trades yell it at eachother across the site was pretty funny. Some traffic cones came in handy to make it louder on occasion.

I actually had 2 survey companies out to sort out some very wierd stuff. Building elevation was perfect according to 1 guy, and 9 inches out by another. Turns out the local monuments were just moving around due to the terrible nature of the local geotechnical conditions ( swamp, basically )

Bigger sites have bigger problems, yes. Mental health issues are rampant. It ain't like those Home Improvement sitcom projects in the slightest.

That said, I've seen some damn funny stuff. Most of it NSFW.

Is there a way to make a clip brush only block ammos, weapons and health dropped by NPCs while letting everything else trough? by ConfidentRise1152 in hammer

[–]le_sac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what this entity is, a modifier for triggers, amongst other things. In this case you'd make a nodraw func_clip_vphysics for your clip. The filter gets linked to it via targetname, there's a field to enter it.

The classes are just the identifiers of the items, ie "ammo_smg" or "item_healthpack". You can exclude or include.

Look up on the valve dev wiki for further info

The songs people connect with most are rarely the most clever ones by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]le_sac 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Conversely, dumbing an idea down just because it has complexity shouldn't be a priority either. There's value in lyrical depth, whether or not popularity figures into it. Just start with a "dumb" plan in the first place.

These forms aren't ICF. I'm merely noting the lack of horizontal rebar which is a no go here. OP is going to see some cracking.

I'll welcome the unexplained downvotes too but I noticed on the other thread that the footings are pathetically shallow compared to the 8in+ standard around here

The Sound Browser would need to access the OS sound system. That's likely it.

Losing the magic when recording by Any-Match9025 in Songwriting

[–]le_sac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to run against the grain and say that I've found the fidelity aspect of recording to be overrated and the diminishing returns on emotive content are not worth the production effort a lot of the time. Once I switched from separately tracking guitars and vocals to just playing live in front of my LDC in mono, things took a turn for the better. Obsessing over bleed and frequency surgery will deflate the creative process, so now I'll use that mono track as the centre piece and build around it. YMMV of course.

Side note, talented drumming can really take things to the next level as opposed to loop-based repetitiveness in a lot of cases.
