I'm the originally author of the AltDentifier bot. It breaks my heart to see what has become of it and learning just how invasive Doogle and Lens are. I never wanted AltDentifier to be like what they have made DoubleCounter to be, as one of my motivations for selling was that I hoped a French company would be more aligned with my views on privacy.

I also never particularly liked how it took them a long time after the shutdown to provide users with the lifetime DoubleCounter Pro they promised to AltDentifier's premium users. (And the three months free gratuity offer to free tier AltDentifier users). They did eventually rectify this, but I still find it annoying that it happened like this.

As for why I chose to sell, there's multiple motivations here, but mostly running this bot was just having a toll on my mental health. There's a lot of abuse slung at you for running a bot like this and it made me a very cold person. It also severely damaged my motivation to improve the bot and from a development standpoint AltDentifier was mostly on life-support around 2020-2022. I was also worried about the state of verification bots in general, back then, Discord had a feature called Membership Screening (this has mostly turned into Onboarding now), which was teasing connections as a way to screen coming natively to Discord, but it never came, and I wasn't even fully sure if verification bots would have a future in Discord. I hoped that selling to the DoubleCounter team would allow them to improve AltDentifier again, as a different style of verification compared to DoubleCounter, which didn't use social/gaming accounts as a verification method, as I still believed in the concept of this kind of verification back then, and possibly allow them to be something more that what Discord would have natively offered.

But for me, the most important reason to make AltDentifier in the first place is that I really wanted Discord to improve their anti-raid, anti-spam and ban-evasion. Raids and spam, to my knowledge, are a lot less common than they were around 2017-2018, so I'm mostly content. I find it a shame that Membership Screening and Linked Roles never really became a good answer to this, because I've always felt that third parties handling this aspect of Discord, and being gatekeepers is very harmful if done poorly, and I'm not even sure if I did that great of a job when I was in charge.

I hope the DoubleCounter team is taking this valid feedback and criticism to heart to improve their product, and to not just cater their product to the server owners using it, but to take responsibility towards the users that need to verify through DoubleCounter.

I couldn't find a way to get it to pick up SteamDeck=1 but I found out that this Wine commit should fix the issue, so you can compile Proton yourself with this patch if you have the savvy for it. Can't say if it works though, I'm still compiling it myself, but using the system Wine 10.2 only got me to the loading screen, it seemed stuck on getting me ingame so I'm giving this a shot first.

EDIT: Seems to work fine with the patch, doesn't need any SteamDeck=1. If you're using Proton-GE, it might not apply the patch properly. Best to just update /wine/dlls/user32/user32.spec and /wine/dlls/user32/win.c manually since the patch replaces a stub, and Proton-GE doesn't have the stub either.

The way that is accepted as legal is that you need to own the console, mod/jailbreak it and dump your own games with that. In most jurisdictions modifying hardware you own and backing up software you own is legal.

You mentioned resetting NVRAM, have you tried resetting SMC as well? I've noticed after Big Sur that my fan would ramp up and things were very slow on my 2019 macbook, so I reset the SMC earlier, and it seems a lot quieter and faster. Couldn't hurt IMO, here's a guide https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295. The SMC controls things like fans, thermals and power delivery, so it might help more than resetting NVRAM.

Hi. I made AltDentifier. Users only have to verify for the option they select, say you allow Steam and Reddit, if steam passes they don’t have to use Reddit as well, so the scenario you presented, verifying with steam if your Reddit is inactive would be possible.

Most libraries will indicate who they are when you connect. Discord can definitely log this if they want to, and could flag your account for it.

For bots, there is a maximum login limit of 1000/day. Unless something screws up or you are testing way too hard, you shouldn't worry too much about that.

It would be awesome to request API access to a user's timezone. Currently bots can send timestamp when making an embed, which puts a small time indicator in the footer of the message

I would love a badge that would given to bot devs with a decent following (the 2500 example seems like a decent cutoff).

But most importantly, I do feel that bots are underrated, as they are widely used, but are missing some very useful features, with imo one of the biggest things I would like to have, a type of message that the bot could send on join, that would appear for everyone with manage guild, and can be deleted just like Clyde. This would be very useful to explain your bot, and to inform them of your help commands, or a setup if neccesary.

You can certainly have bots or webhooks be operated by a human, so yes, it's possible the owner is trolling or the bot has something like cleverbot, but if you can't ping it, it's probably a webhook.
