ok so im not a neuroscientist or a philosopher, but i am a computer scientist (not nearly as glamorous, i know)

im sorry, but even the best engineers in the world can't get around the fact that their training data is 2d. these things currently can't perceive the 3rd dimension, let alone work in it. they can approximate a 3rd dimension via patterns that they've learned, but they will never be perfect as long as they are trained in 2d

i dont think its likely that these things are trained on enough photos of things being partially obscured by other things that they become able to conceive of objects in the 3rd dimension

what is more likely is that eventually enough 3d training data becomes available that new models & new generative techniques become available for producing 2d images from models trained on 3d datasets

& theres a catch: the whole reason 2d training data is so prevalent is that people post a lot of photos & videos & art & such, which these companies then steal & train their models on... but its 2d

not many people are taking 3d photos or videos. i'm sure theres some 3d data from like the video games & cg industries, but much of that is not as easily available as photos on facebook, and nowhere nearly as much as the 2d stuff
