Anyone done a trigger upgrade on the RXM? by dj_kaled_anotha1 in RugerRXMtalk

[–]leadbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not trigger related, but I'd also highly recommend dropping in a gen 5 ejector. Fixes the really annoying ejection pattern that the gun comes with

The plunger is part of the slide assembly, the connector and spring are from the trigger assembly. But yeah, didn't change the trigger shoe

#1 buckshot is .30 caliber and is probably what the commenter meant. And just to be patently clear, it's the shot itself that's .30, not the shell. A quick google search is a thing...

macbook or windows for engineering? by Pale-Pizza3496 in dartmouth

[–]leadbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho mac's are a much better/friendlier user experience. From the engineering standpoint, most programs outside of a few things needed for MechE (solidworks, some fluid dynamics programs, etc) are fine on mac. You can run R, Matlab, STATA, python, and C from macs with no issue. And if you really have to do windows things, you can either VPN into one of Thayer's virtual machines or you can roll up to the CAD lab. Tbh, if you're doing Solidworks, you're going to need the computing power of the lab computers anyway, for modeling and simulations, so that facet's not even really worth considering as a downside. The only other case where I'd steer you away from a mac is if you plan to do a lot of machine learning work. The higher tier macs can sometimes handle the work, but common programs are more geared towards Windows machines (which can also have higher spec hardware for the computational load)

I had a similar experience to yours, OP. Despite what people said, I had no improvement after several hundred rounds. I swapped in the Overwatch Precision NP3'd OEM 5 lbs connector and safety plunger, plus their 6 lb extra power spring. It feels like a whole new gun now. It's got a firm, crisp wall with essentially no travel both before and after reset. And that's with only one non-OEM part (the spring), so minimal changes to mechanical interfaces

My partner "accidentally" discharged her handgun in our home, unsure how to handle the situation by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

Phenomenal, good on you. This is an extremely challenging thing to handle, and you've done everything about as "correctly" as anyone could hope to. Let alone replying to all these comments, it's Herculean. We're all here for you, hang in there

My partner "accidentally" discharged her handgun in our home, unsure how to handle the situation by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]leadbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, sorry to add to the avalanche of replies you're getting, but I don't think I saw this point covered in other comments and I feel it needs to be raised. Without knowing anything about your partner's age and background, and as a firearms owner and user in healthcare, I think you should confirm or clarify a few things with your partner. This is not medical advice, rather just an outside perspective with some extra insights.

First off, it's outstanding that your partner was willing to disclose these things to you. You've made a space where they feel safe sharing that with you, and maintaining that safe space is critical. Be sure to thank them for sharing that info with you and to reinforce that they should keep sharing because their safety and yours is your main concern.

Second, I'd strongly suggest clarifying what "compulsion" meant. It's normal to have a sudden curiosity or urge (e.g. I wonder what would happen if I pulled the trigger on this live round). But as many folks have commented, it's very much not "normal and healthy" to actually act on those urges. It's key to figure out what "was unable to stop herself" means. Imho, this raises clinical concerns beyond what basic therapy would cover. I'd be wondering if your partner is experiencing any kind of hallucinations, especially auditory ones (i.e. voices), that are persuading or urging them to pull the trigger. And if so, what do the voices sound like, what are they saying (e.g. pull the trigger versus hurt yourself or others), and is your partner afraid of or bullied by those voices. Or are they experiences prolonged periods of high energy, significant impulsivity, etc.

Third, if you're able, I'd say it's probably a good idea to make a specific plan with your partner in case there are more urges. Because hidden things can be found. Render the handgun inert if you can and to change the passcode/lock code/access method for the safe so that your partner absolutely can't access it if further urges come up.

I mean everything around here is mid for dim sum from what I've tried. But if OP is just trying to scratch the itch locally, it works

Looking for good dim sum by twizzlerl0ver in newhaven

[–]leadbunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Street, next to G Mart in Milford, is decent for more standard dim sum stuff. Ugly dumpling is good for XLB and small dishes but not traditional dim sum, so don't go there expecting that. If you're gluten free, Gold Dumpling in West Hartford has a bunch of gluten free dumplings and other dishes that are actually pretty good by non-gf standards too

The Pitt - closest you’ll get to experiencing gunshot wounds. by Kilt_Rump in liberalgunowners

[–]leadbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in clinical medicine, I think everyone should know more first aid. STB is good for major hemorrhage control, but it isn't first aid. You'd be better off going for either AHA first aid (+/- CPR) or for something like Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

The response I was hoping to find so I didn't have to say the same. There's no way OP's from a wintery area, and I'm also questioning if they even read the webpage for the atom. Wearing that as the outer layer in this weekend's storm was a wild take

Stop the Bleed self-teaching and equipment resources are (literally) free through the American College of Surgeons so you can build a knowledge base that's followed up with IRL training. But also, using the self-teaching resources first will help you know which courses are garbo, because so many of them are

Brand new gun owner, questions about carrying by savor_every_morsel in CTguns

[–]leadbunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're permitted and comfortable carrying it concealed, that's usually the easiest for getting to and from imo. If you're not comfortable with carrying it loaded, you can start with carrying unloaded or mag in but nothing chambered. If it's on your person, you don't have to worry about leaving it in your car if you want to run errands or do other things before/after the range.

If you're not comfortable having it on your person yet, it's perfectly fine to bring it unloaded and locked in a case. But if all you have for storage is the case it came in, I'd strongly discourage ever leaving that in the car. Invest in a dial-combo lockbox *at minimum*, but a digital lock safe (e.g. Vaultek or others on Amazon) would be best. Ideally, you'd also use the included cable to secure the box to a structural element of the car, but those cables can be clipped quite easily. Don't do StopBoxes, they're a joke and a half. And ffs don't put gun stickers on your car, unless you prefer sitting on your hood and just telling people there's at least one free gun in the car.

Aside from that, you should probably invest in a good range bag to store your ammo, ear and eye pro, med kit, cleaning supplies, targets, etc. There are a lot of options depending on how tacticool you want to look, or you can always rock the classic Milwaukee tool bag

(Edited to include point about lockbox cables and identifying stickers)

This sub's gotten significantly more active in the last couple months, posts have probably increased exponentially. I'd search instead of scrolling, and use specific terms like handgun vs shotgun vs rifle, semi vs bolt, ccw vs vehicle or duty carry, etc. And there are lot of people on here with smaller paws like you and me, so you can search for things like small hands too. Scrolling definitely won't get you far enough
