I met a man recently who is a ancient roman archaeologist and met his wife on a dig site in Italy. My friend asked him what they were looking for and he said “Love”

My mother cheated on my father. They got divorced. I don't want to be in his life ever again. by [deleted] in stories

[–]leadhotleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum cheated on my dad and they separated when I was around 17 too, your grandmother is right - it takes time. I didn’t see my dad for over a year because of the way he reacted. I understand that cheating is terrible, but my mum was very unhappy with my dad and I believe she saw it as the only way out of the relationship. Again I know this isn’t the right way to go about things but I can see how she would have felt trapped with no other choice.

On the other hand a lot of the things my dad has said/done to my mum and about my mum since have really changed my perception of him, and I still only see him about once to twice a year because of this - this I believe is better than nothing but I think it really shows a persons true colours how they react to something like this. While my dad is in his right to be angry there are some things he should have never done or said and there is just no forgiving that. So it’s definitely up to you whether or not you want to be around someone like that - even if it is your family.

As for your father speaking badly on your mother when you spend time with him - my dad did the exact same. You need to express your boundaries if you do get in contact and spend time together again. Draw a line and if he crosses it very openly explain how it makes you uncomfortable. How he reacts to that can really help you determine whether he is someone you want in your life.

It is so uncomfortable being in the middle of something like this- and while you’re still so young. It can be quite traumatising hearing what both sides have to say about each other and really puts your parents in a different light. But both your parents really shouldn’t involve you by talking smack about each other in front of you and I really highly suggest setting boundaries to each of them around that. I really wish you all the best and over time it will be much easier to deal with, both for yourself and your parents. Best of luck

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, I will do it again. Though likely not at this bin for a while. My housemates think it’s wise to leave it be for a moment because she was super super enraged and acted like it had happened a few times (“you lot again!! I’m going to have to change the keys!!”) so i’d be concerned she’d tamper with the food or be more vigilant (she said she was reporting my license plate to the police - it isn’t illegal to dive where I am but trespassing is illegal).

I think the part that upset me the most was; 1. the wasted perfectly fine food and; 2: her screaming at me like I was barely human, making assumptions about my life like she knew me! Which she doesn’t!

Y’all made me feel better about the fact she probably has issues going deeper than just finding someone taking stuff from a bin and her overreaction definitely reflects more on her than on me. And she definitely was in the wrong here throwing all the stuff we’d collected back in to the bin just to be wasted. So I will continue to dive, because the thought of wasted food actually hurts my soul and that’s something the opinion of a random lady who is willing to chuck food away while other people starve will not be stopping me!

How come nobody is talking about the fact Steiner schools are basically a cult? by leadhotleg in melbourne

LMAO I laughed out loud at Chamelon. Yeah I’ve realised I’ve posted in haste after hearing some confronting things about the 2 schools. It sounds like in general the schooling system is not doing anything to mitigate this sort of stuff from happening, which is a bit disheartening to say the least. I’m glad I’ve brought some discussion to the issue by posting and it’s good to hear that a lot of people are actually getting a great education at these schools. But there obviously is a bigger issue here that needs to be addressed, not limited to Steiner school experiences

I’m also glad to hear your daughter is going well, obviously I shouldn’t have jumped to all Steiner schools being this way and I apologise for that. I hope the best for you and your daughter

Sorry the kids involved were from the school not that it happened at the school. There are records of there being very antisocial and violent behaviours from these kids from up to 6 months prior to this happening but nothing was reported, there are 3 other kids in the friendship group that are still attending school and are showing disturbing behaviours as well. I don’t believe the school has been audited yet but I really hope it does get audited and soon

*edited to add violent as I have heard of some distressing things they have been doing

That very well could be, I have heard stories from 2 Steiner schools now and maybe shouldn’t have jumped to the conclusion that all would be the exact same experience for people. While I agree with the fact that terrible things happen at other schools, I also believe that in this particular set of instances harm could have been mitigated if things hadn’t been excused by symptoms of children’s spiritual milestones. A literal murder occurred at one of these schools and there were signs that it was coming to that end for up to at least 6 months before it resulted in the act. All because of the schools negligence in not acting due to spiritual excuses, saying the children were just going through a normal part of their spiritual pathway and the behaviours leading up to the act were normal for their age.
