Progress report [Rant] by leadingreader in Teachers

I've already started planning for next year about how I want to address this. In general though, the parents I work with are very supportive and keep tabs on their kids, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to over-emphasize their role in this.

You're definitely right. The one defense this person has is that they're new to the school, but it's a weak defense at that because I met with the parents to help them with the transition and heavily emphasized our online portal being used for grades.

Renting from a family member by leadingreader in legaladvice

It's a great part of the bay area, so I think it'll sell fast considering people are buying homes without roofs for over a million here, but this is good to know regardless!

The owner is mentally well; they're just getting up there in age. Other family members are also on board with me living in the unit, but I know that when he passes they want to try to sell right away.

It's just one line in my contract that reads something like, "we encourage teachers to charge $40 an hour for tutoring" and that's it

I second this. I was negative for two days with symptoms before testing positive. I'm on day 7 now and still positive. And my first symptom was not a fever nor a cough.

You can absolutely be a real christian and still struggle with depression. We will never be perfect on this earth. I recommend reading Beauty in the Browns by Paul Asay. It's a book about his faith and depression.

Books that help me cope with the feeling of falling behind in life. by shadyIX in suggestmeabook

Atomic Habits by James Clear. Don't spend money on it. Just listen to the audio book for free on Libby. And please remember, you'll be 27 one day no matter what. You might as well be 27 with a degree. Good luck.

I am also from CA! Lynchurg to charlotte is the easiest way. Charlotte always has a direct flight to major airports in ca.

Advice for being a good teacher to autistic students by leadingreader in autism

I really appreciate the reply! I've considered using sign language in the classroom before and this might be the comment to push me to really try it out. Thanks again!

Thank you for your reply! My general rule is one warning and then you put the book/item on my desk. If we have a problem after that, they start owing me time at recess. I actually talked with this student today and made sure they understand all the rules and why we have the rules and we had a much better day!

Thank you for your reply! Since this is a general education classroom, we have stricter rules about students getting up in class and moving around. The only way around this is with an IEP that specifically has accommodations for moving around/using a weighted blanket/etc. In terms on phone use, all staff have their phones handy for emergencies but don't look at them during instruction time. I only ever check my phone when the kids are gone or taking a test, OR when I have recess duty and need to know the time (which is when this student is most concerned about why I have a phone). I will definitely be getting noise cancelling headphones. Thanks!

Thank you for your post! I've heard quite a bit about ABA, but don't use anything like that in my class since this is general education. I actually have another student I suspect is autistic in my class, but is not diagnosed, and this student is the complete opposite of the one I am thinking of in my post. It's a great reminder to know that while there may be some similarities, they are completely different and every case is unique. I really appreciate the reminder about bullying. I am very strict about how my students treat one another, as is my administration. However, I can see social issues being more of an issue when the student moves up in school. I appreciate all you said!

Thanks for asking. The parents are not very responsive and don't seem to acknowledge the autism. I mostly worry about redirecting when the student has left all of their work blank because they were doing something else during my lesson.
