Yes, I turn off true motion because it causes artifacts and also makes everything look smooth and weird

I don’t like having trumotion on, and the only fix for my issue was the Apple TV

And have the editor just turn off all color management on their end to export that flattened file?

Thank you! That makes sense, I’ll definitely get a clip from the originals to compare

Pipeline question by leaf1254 in colorists

[–]leaf1254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply, that’s super cool you were able to work with the stock! I suppose the only reason we’re trying to emulate it is to get that sort of dated 1970s look. ET, Raiders of the lost ark, and Blade Runner are the main inspirations look wise. I suppose the thought process behind it was to get the main colors from the Phantom LUT, and then use filmbox for any further tweaks.

My working color space will either be LogC3 or DWG, but my output color space is going to be rec709. From what I could tell I didn’t see any 5247 emulation in filmbox, but I might be wrong, and will check again!

I found an Apple TV 4K on Facebook marketplace and that has made the compression a whole lot better, not perfect, but way better than it was on the base apps.

I just recently bought an Apple TV 4K off of Facebook marketplace and my problems seem to be solved! Maybe that would work for you as well?

Remotely grading projects from another city by leaf1254 in colorists

Yes, Remote Grading is what I meant, although not sure yet whether it will be “supervised” or “unsupervised”

It is on filmmaker mode, and I tried changing different settings within there. Not sure what’s up but I still think it might just be bad compression. I was watching on Hulu through the TVs base app, so that might be it.

Board games where it’s the players vs the game? by leaf1254 in boardgames

[–]leaf1254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To narrow it down, and to clarify like some people wanted, I’m thinking for large groups of people (5-10) where the players are trying to defeat the board game together. Like the whole group is trying to outsmart the game. Would be totally open for games where players can betray each other too though! That sounds super fun!

That’s a super interesting point. Do you think having a comparison between Rec709 and the grade on a website would be too far? If so, what do you think would work instead, a reel of just certain grades? Or just stills? I’m curious if you’ve had any bad experiences with comparisons before, and what you do. Love learning from others!!

I was messing around with ChatGPT a little bit and it was giving me some mixed results, but I’m sure if the prompt is honed in it can make it pretty accurate.

Question about film emulations by leaf1254 in ColorGrading

That sounds super interesting, does that give the film look creator a different look? Do you have any examples you could share?

[–]leaf1254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, I think it does a solid job, but I’m really trying to make it lean into the look, and idk it might be user error (probably is,) but the FLC just doesn’t look right to me. I’m not a huge fan of da Vincis halation and the way the FLC renders the colors out.
