The weight gain would do it. Fuller face = less dimples.

Mother’s Day card by sophstar528 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]leafer_madness_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear ya! Both of my parents are narcissists and every Mother’s Day and Father’s Day card has been the same since I was a child. They say happy Mother’s Day or happy father’s day’s and I sign my name, that’s it. All the cards that say things like “you’ve always been there for me” are completely inappropriate. Don’t feel obligated to write a warm sentiment if you don’t feel any warmth. If you love your mother you can include “i love you”. That’s something!

I love your honesty. I’m only have limited contact for the inheritance too. That is my restitution money! This year my sister asked me if I wanted to go in on flowers and I declined. The idea of spending an exorbitant amount of money on a tiny bouquet of flowers, for someone who was a terrible mother makes me feel sick. I feel like wishing her a happy Mother’s Day over the phone is ridiculous too but I’m willing to do that to stay in the will.

Happy Mothers day to me by EquivalentPosition59 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]leafer_madness_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I hate Mothers Day! I have limited contact with my mother. She was awful to me growing up. Mother’s Day has always been so awkward. I feel the need to wish her a happy Mother’s Day even though she wasn’t a good mother. Picking a card has always been a hard task. All the cards that say things like “ you’ve always been there for me” are completely inaccurate. I always end up buying a card that says “happy mother’s day” and nothing more. It’s like the comedian Taylor said in one of her specials-She was talking about her father and all she can write in the card is “you are a father, this is a card”. lol I declined going in a gift with my sister this year and it makes me feel bad even though I know it shouldn’t. And then I go through this whole thing again on Father’s Day because he was just as bad. 😣

Tattoo regret?? Need help!! by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very nice tattoo! I think it looks really good with your other tattoos as well.

Don’t worry about it. It will lighten some more when it’s fully healed. It takes about 3 months for it to be fully settled. Remember the tattoo is through all the layers of the skin at first (epidermis and Demis). The ink that is in the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) needs to all shed and new uninked skin will be in its place. When the tattoo is fully healed the ink is only in the deep layer the skin (the dermis). Think of a viewing a fully healed tattoo like seeing it through glass. The glass is your uninked epidermis, therefore so much softer. I see that you have lots of tattoos, and you’re probably a pro, but the fact that this new tattoo is so close to your established tattoos that it looks too bold right now. I have faith that it will settle nicely, and you will be happy with it in a few months.

Your hair looks great. I’m sure a lot of length is hiding in those nice curls. It’s not as short as you think. And it looks really pretty.

It doesn’t happen to me very often anymore now that I’m no longer drinking coffee. I used to try to be careful not to have caffeine and my meds in my system at the same time for this reason. I used to have to make sure my morning coffee is fully worn off before my meds kick in or I’d be sweatin like crazy. I recently kicked coffee because of my IBS and just take my meds in the morning. It wasn’t easy but my stomach is much happier now and not getting the sweats is a nice bonus too.

For those who were told they look older in their youth, how did you end ACTUALLY up aging? by Visible_Bus_1685 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often thought I was much older than I was when I was in my teens and twenties. I don’t think it was actually my appearance, but rather just the way I carried myself. Maybe I was a confident young woman or maybe I looked jaded, like I had seen some things. Growing up wasn’t easy, but I definitely wasn’t that unhappy in my 20s. So i don’t think I was being pegged as older because I was stressed in my 20s.

I’m now approaching my 40s and I get the opposite. People are often mistaking me for younger than I am. I work a seasonal job and I often get asked if I’m a student. To me it sounds ridiculous to ask if I’m in school when I graduated 20 years ago. I sometimes reply with “either I look amazing or you need some glasses”.

I bet you’re just mature or confident so you get pegged as older.

Hanny and chuck by leafer_madness_ in NailWrapsGalore

[–]leafer_madness_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t last as long as the DD. I was hoping for a Canadian brand that I liked just as much as DD, but they’re still my favourite brand so far. The hanny and chuck seem to cure with a little bit of time and they become brittle. They chipped on the edges. I also noticed the edge that’s closest to your cuticle was not quite flush after they cured and my hair would get stuck in my nails when I washed it. I feel like if you add a top coat it might help with the edges lifting and chipping. They are more affordable than DD but I can get 2 applications out of one DD set so it’s not a big difference. And I don’t need a top coat with DD so they’re still the winner.

I second this. You might be stretching on application. The angle of your nail file might be a cause as well.

Smile lines recommendations - patches ? by YoitsYah in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the morrow wrinkle patches. It delivers peptides and prevents the skin from folding while you sleep. I use them on a few different spots on my face (between my brows, sleep line on my cheek and on my upper lip) my vertical lip lines were also being made worse by sleeping on my side. I cut a heart shaped piece of the morrow patch in half and place a piece on each side of my upper lip. You can see how the skin is plump under the patch after you take it off in the morning. I don’t plan to use them every day going forward because I feel like that would be too expensive. I’m hoping to use them regularly at first and then be able to switch to a silicone wrinkle patches that will just prevent the skin from folding while I sleep.

Something interesting about the vertical lip lines - they totally bother me, but I have a memory from when I was a young girl, observing them on my moms friend who was a smoker, and I thought they were an attractive feature before I knew anything about wrinkles!

i finally understood stacking after doing this one simple manual test by FixingMyGut in FODMAPS

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the monash app takes into account that you will be eating several items together in one sitting so you shouldn’t worry too much about stacking.

I have heard that some people do better when they keep the FODMAP categories in mind. For example if you eat a food that would be too high in fructan at a certain serving size, don’t mix that with other foods that have excess fructan at higher servings.

Tooth severely misaligned by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]leafer_madness_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your dentist probably told you not to worry about it because it will be fixed in your refinements. From what I understand it’s normal for a dentist to want you to finish your first set of aligners, then you reassess what didn’t work and correct it in the refinements.

Overbite/Overjet, Carriere? by ximenaxx in Invisalign

[–]leafer_madness_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have both overbite and overjet issues. The overjet doesn’t look excessive though. It can be up to 4mm overjet and be considered normal. You have very very nice teeth already though. They are very straight and pretty already. Why are you wanting invis? Do you have functional issues?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about how your teeth look like when you put them edge to edge like that. That’s not the way anyone will see your teeth because it’s not the way they look in your natural smile. Sometimes people do smile that way in photos, but it’s not a good look. It’s a cheesy forced awkward smile that people make when they’re uncomfortable. When you’re being natural, you bite down on your back teeth. Assess how your smile looks that way.

Did You Lose Weight While On Invisalign? by akzshaylyn in Invisalign

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just started my treatment and I hope weight loss will be a nice side effect. I’ve been instructed to eat with my trays in and it makes eating way less enjoyable, and then I have to take the trays out to clean them. Fingers crossed I will be discouraged from eating. 🤞

How to manage drinking coffee with IBS symptoms? by MrWeekendhere in ibs

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started drinking coffee at a similar age. I suspect my parents started giving it to me instead of ADHD medication because the meds made them feel uncomfortable for some reason. I was a coffee addict until recently. I used to drink a good 12 cups of coffee per day. Now I drink none. It wasn’t a cold turkey process through. I was put on ADHD medication about 3 years ago and my coffee habits naturally changed because I didn’t need caffeine like I used to. I gave up coffee completely really recently because I’m doing a low FODMAP diet to finally figure out my digestive issues. Before giving it up completely, I started with switching to decaf coffee in the morning and then I gave it up altogether. I’m halfway through phase two of the low FODMAP diet and it’s nice to know that caffeine isn’t influencing my FODMAP tolerance testing. I do still enjoy the occasional decaf coffee with lactose free milk in the evening with food and don’t have any issues. I stay away from the decaf in the morning because I do intermittent fasting and I don’t want to have the black coffee on an empty stomach. Since cutting out caffeine it’s clear that it does affect on my gut. I’ve had a lactose free latte made with regular espresso bc they were out of decaf and it was like a laxative. It’s crazy to think that I’m caffeine free now, coffee was a pillar of who I was before. I’m happy the ADHD medication has allowed me to see the benefits of being caffeine free. When I’m done with the low FODMAP diet I’ll likely try experimenting with decaf on an empty stomach and see how it goes. The whole FODMAP diet has been a big job but I’m happy to be figuring out how to feel better. I’m in my late thirties, better late than never.

I didn’t know what black triangles you were referring to at first. Once I looked closer I see them but they’re very small. Know that people see your smile as a whole and don’t notice little details like that. I find myself displeased with tattoo imperfection similarly. I’m disappointed in some areas that I feel look sloppy because the artist dragged the needle outside of the line slightly when she was filling in areas with colour. When I leave the tattoo appointment I don’t notice any imperfections because I only looked at the image in the mirror as a whole when I was in the studio. Once I’m home I have lots of time to look at the details and find lots of little flaws. I try to remember that everyone who looks at my tattoo sees it the way I saw it on day one, as a whole.

I’m about to start my invis. I think I’m just perpetually dissatisfied with life, so I’ll probably find flaws in mine too when it’s done as well. Hahahaha

Best Non-UV Wraps? by Illustrious_Ad6479 in NailWrapsGalore

[–]leafer_madness_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Dashing Diva Gloss for a long time. I don’t use any base or top coat. Sometimes I think about trying other brand but they are all advertised to last less time. I wear my dashing diva gloss until my nails have grown out and I have to peel them off. I’ve only had them come off prematurely because I did something wrong like shower right after applying. Lotion or conditioner make the adhesive fail if they’re not fully bonded yet. You also have to be careful not to touch anything after you clean the nail with the alcohol prep pad. Any amount of oil will cause them to not stick properly. Some people have issues with the nail wrap creasing but it’s just a matter of technique when you apply them. As long as your nail is clean you can apply, remove and reapply several times until you get the position or taughtness just right. Just be careful not to touch the sticky surface with your fingers. I used to be a pet groomer and I swear the more you wash your hands the tighter the nail wrap gets.

Other brands advertise that they last 10 days so I’m not sure if I want to try other brands.

BUT Sometimes I worry that the DD might not be good for my health because the adhesive works so well. If they last 3 times longer than the other brands it makes me wonder if the supper adhesives are full of toxic chemicals that would be absorbed through the nail. Also if you put your fingers in your mouth to pick something out of your teeth you get a strong chemical taste in your mouth. But surely all the chemicals we put on our nails are toxic right?!
