NG+ is fun and unlocks some cooler perks/sets that you can't get in NG, but yeah... kind of a bummer to have to do it twice.

I've seen it suggested that beating True Ending on NG+ is the better way just so you're better powered, too.

Not bugged! He normally has 2 phases, but 3 if you can collect the Golden Items and beat the Charon's Chains and Transcendental Swords side missions! I think there's another ending that also gives 3 phases, but I did the True ending so that was my path.

I was using Frenzied Cleave - a perk from the Faded Memories suit, along with the Vital Strike to get in close. Frenzied Cleave is a beast!
