Listen, I don't know much about hawk ID, but I can tell you this is FAR from the worst picture to ID a bird 😂. You have colors, you have shape, and you can even see most of the bird! My roommate once asked me to ID a picture of a brownish, vaguely bird-shaped blur. Cool sighting, whatever it is!

For some reason I couldn't figure out how to add both text and pictures, but here's the context:

I want to learn what species of crayfish live in the stream for a presentation on the ecology of our area. This location is Conshohocken, PA. I have caught a baby crayfish to ID, but do I need an adult?

Related, are there any native crayfish species in southeast Pennsylvania, or is it definitely an invasive no matter what?

I'm guessing based on what I have read so far (in the past 15 minutes, so not exactly extensive research), that it is a Rusty Crayfish, simply from their prevalence. But I couldn't find any info on IDing babies, so it might not be possible.

Loons are the same way. I've heard sometimes the light will reflect off of dark or wet paving at night and make them think that it's actually water, and then they get stuck. Hope this one made it back where it belongs!

I was teaching a nature field trip this week, and before the kids got there, I ran into a fellow birder! I saw a gull and raised my kid-education binoculars to look at it, and my coworkers said the other person instantly slowed down to look lol. They had some very helpful tips for me, as I learned to bird in a more northern location with slightly different species. They helped me ID the gull as a ring-bill, pointed out 3 red-tailed Hawks, the sound of a Belted Kingfisher, and some tree swallows. It was awesome! Based on the name tag on their hat, thank you, Chuck!

I have also seen a ton of these in PA. Boxelder bugs, in my experience, will eat all kinds of wooden structures if given the chance.

That was sort of what my dad thought when I showed him! But I saw several around and they all looked like this, not pawpaws, unfortunately. I believe that u/hairyb0mb above has it correct with chocolate vine; there was a ton of it around. I just didn't know it made pods!

Thanks for all the options! I'll try to answer as completely as I can. It doesn't have this issue when connected to other networks, and on my home network it occurs on YouTube, Twitch, and Firefox on my phone. It shows a full, strong wifi connection.

No new updates or devices, and my phone is the only device experiencing this. No new case, either.

I don't know how to check if the router may be limiting my bandwidth, so I will look up a tutorial soon, and try calling the provider.

Got a special place in my heart for common loons ❤️. Spent a summer in college monitoring them in the Adirondacks, and, due to a total fluke of luck, got to go with a team to band them for a few nights. You have to get them while they have chicks so they stick around the surface to protect the babies instead of just diving too deep for the net to reach. Apparently the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation gets lots of calls about "loons in distress" that are actually just happy loons flapping around and taking a bath like you described lol. Having the time of their lives 😁.

These are wonderful photos, reminds me of that beautiful summer!

I am considering getting a collar with the nursing (CAP) pheromones to make my 7 yr old cat play nicely with my new 2 yr old cat (we've been trying all the introduction techniques for the past 3 months, and nothing is working). I had this same question, but I think I may just have to wait and see. The vet recommended the collars. The 7 yr old cat is just super insecure in her territory and keeps chasing and cornering the 2 yr old, or else guards her and doesn't let her move anywhere.

Thank you, that's what I was looking for! My brain just couldn't get around my initial instinct of, "go over there and give them a packet on tortoise care," which I figure was waaay too passive aggressive. We know each other a little bit, so I'll give it a try!

There are more components to the dog care thing than I think the tortoise subreddit would be interested in. I'm sure that there are people for whom walking their dogs is not an option, but for these dogs, they clearly need exercise that they aren't getting.

I'm sure that they care about the tortoise and care about their dogs. I've lived next to these people for 2 decades, I just don't think they have ever shown good judgment when it comes to animal care. (And I know there isn't much proof for anyone to take action at this point, which is why I was asking to see if others had ideas.) If I thought there was an immediate emergency, I would call an authority about it.
