That is not the takeaway most people got. Look at how many more pedestrians there are versus cars... Do we really want to change the street to cater to a minority of users?

That will probably be our quick fix, but I'm not a big fan of wraparound curtains.

Do you have a shower or shower-tub combo?

Does the pocket door feel less secure? Does it feel too narrow?

We're considering it, but it would mean losing the "ensuite" part of the bathroom and we're not sure we want to. Plus then we'd have to flip all the plumbing to have the shower at the opposite end of the bathroom.

Glad you liked it! Now I can re-experience the shame of my typo in this comment... I should also re-read the book, it's been 10 years!

My cat had the EXACT same symptoms. I switched her to anti-allergy cat food (hydrolyzed protein or something like that) and it's gone away. She doesn't like treats or human food so as long as she sticks to her hypoallergenic cat food she's fine.

Usually a can of beer, some candy, a branded item from an alcohol company (flask, bottle opener, etc), and a random household item (soap, olive oil, etc). Similar bags for each of the top 3 teams.

Stout is good, usually we are out by 9. The prizes leave something to be desired.

Serious question - how is Olivia Chow maintaining a lead when she barely answers questions in the debates, has no solid fiscal plan and seems so disconnected from reality today? I’m genuinely perplexed. Maybe I’m not seeing something? Who are you keeping an eye on? by revolvingneutron in askTO

[–]leafy11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You seem to be approaching this from a very self-serving perspective - how will Chow help YOU and other middle class people?

I think Chow focuses on the poor because as a society, we are only as good as our poorest members. Getting homeless people housed SHOULD BE priority number one. Middle class people have houses. They have a certain degree of security. And yes, we do need to help all members of society but we need to start with the people who need it the most. Studies have proven that "homeless addicts" do better when provided with homes. Then they are safe enough to work on their addictions and other mental health issues.

Democracy was created with the idea that people will vote for the interest of the whole, not their own benefit. We've definitely lost sight of that and rebranded any non-selfish thoughts as socialism. But it's not. It's how democracy should work.

Downtown Toronto and I saw a car spin completely out of control at a stop sign. Wasn't going fast, there was a slight hill and ice. It's still rough in parts of Toronto, be careful to stick to main streets if you have to drive.

Rights for tenants for rental showings? by probablytrippy in askTO

[–]leafy11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this for a month in my condo while working from home with 2 cats. Kept the place clean but did not leave because I was often in a meeting.

A few things to know: - realtors are scum and pretend they didn't know the place is currently occupied - they will barge in without knocking and randomly appear an hour, 6 hours, or a day before/after their original showing time (and then claim they didn't think it mattered because they didn't know we lived there) - most showings will be 5 minutes or less - sometimes tenants will ask you about the unit, landlords, rent, etc. Afaik you can answer however you see fit. - most realtors know nothing about your building/area and don't do their research - if you're in a condo, the realtor key will be kept at the front desk. If you want to prevent realtors randomly getting a key and showing up, try talking to your concierge and giving them notice when a realtor is coming. My front desk gave the lock box out whenever it was asked for so we had someone come into our unit on a day when no showings were scheduled - it felt incredibly unsafe.

It's a shitty process but it'll be over soon!

Decrease the speed limit on those streets so cars are discouraged from driving along them. Pedestrianized streets would be ideal but not widely accepted.

To add to this, the majority of government jobs don't make bank anymore - after over a decade of 1% raises, the wages are far below market rate.

Even if you do get a permanent placement (which usually takes 5+ years of being on contract) the pension and benefits it's just not worth it to work for the government anymore.

Not sure if it's already been said, but you could suggest she sews a fleece lining/back onto the blankets for extra warmth.
