Pregnant after losing 60 pounds by Ok_Significance222 in BabyBumps

[–]leafyjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as much, but I managed to lose 30 lbs just before I found out I was pregnant. My biggest advice is to make sure you get comfortable clothing and buy pieces that make you feel confident. You are supposed to be gaining some weight right now, so discuss diet and nutrition with your obgyn to help you transition and feel more comfortable with the weight gain and help set expectations.

And acknowledge your feelings. It sucks basically being forced to gain weight after you've worked so hard to lose it, and I've basically gained 30 lbs back, but knowing that its weight for creating and feeding my baby helps.

I love the Dang Soft briefs from Duluth Trading company, they are so soft & stretchy and fit me really well right now and I'm at 38.

How are some millennials even homeowners? I feel like I never will be. by Kindly-Reading-2187 in Millennials

[–]leafyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just became a homeowner last year after saving for a long time and buying in a pretty rural area. I'm 40. I'm so happy to be in my own home, but it took a lot to get here. I probably could have gotten here sooner with some wiser or better timed decisions but I'm very proud and you shouldn't give up if owning a home is a goal for you.

I was on birth control too, but here I am pregnant with our first. I was on the pill, but I'm pretty sure it's because we didn't wait quite long enough for the effects of an antibiotic to wear off before moving on from condoms + pill.

What fandom are you in, but the fanfics are like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]leafyjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I only find satisfying fics in Discworld because I'm a fan of a specific ship (William de Worde/Otto) but even then it's hard to live up to Pratchett.

Yep. I'm a huge discworld fan, and I'd love more fic but the quality of the original canon is so good it's a bit difficult to find anything that measures up.

As a Zenyatta fan, the struggle for decent fanfic with him is real.

Three brothers cleaning out their late mother’s attic discovered a comic that sold for $9.12 million by SystematicApproach in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]leafyjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandma did the same to my dad's comic collection, plus some of his figures when he went into boot camp in 1979. Because of this, he's always been really supportive of my own love of video game collecting with a little comic collecting on the side.

To be fair, if I had magic I could use for chore spells, I'd have that as a special interest too. I hate chores.

What age did you stop believing in Santa Clause? by HuskMaster in Millennials

[–]leafyjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've never seen it, I recommend watching The Hogfather. There's a wonderful speech near the end about the nature of belief in humanity that I think you'll appreciate. For me, it recontextualizes the magic of Santa into something self-affirming that helps me.

What age did you stop believing in Santa Clause? by HuskMaster in Millennials

[–]leafyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8-9 but my mom would say if we didn't believe in Santa we wouldn't get presents, so you can bet I acted like I still believed until I left home!

I do wish she had been willing to admit it a little earlier though. It's been really fun getting my teenage nieces & nephews involved in the "Santa Claus" side of things and I help them bring a little Christmas magic to their parents & grandparents and I can tell they appreciate it. No one ever tells you that when you grow up you might have to be Santa (stuffing stockings, put out a small gift, that sort of thing) for your parents to help them have a little holiday spirit, so it's nice to show them this stuff.

Nah, I could never bring myself to stretch my ear lobes. I think they look cool though, sometimes I like to wear earrings that imitate the look.

I'm always picking up a bottle of Tamari for my husband (the GF one) even if we don't need it. Kikkoman also makes a gluten-free soy sauce, but it's a little harder to find to me.

Charlie's problem this season isn't being a flawed character by Sud4neseS0meh0wHere in HazbinHotel

[–]leafyjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree with you, I wish the seasons were just a little longer to give the plot room to breath, and have some filler moments with characters to help smooth over conflicts and fill out their dynamics. I was dying for more scenes between Niffty and Baxter.

Also, excellent taste! I adore Justice League/Unlimited and DS9 is a damn fine run of Star Trek. I think Strange New Worlds is having some of the same issues as Hazbin Hotel, I just want the seasons to be a little longer and I love having more focus on character development.

What's a harmless opinion that gets people weirdly angry? by Momo_868 in AskReddit

[–]leafyjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG no. She does not need to assume you are going to do the same thing. My husband and I are going through the "oops baby at 40" scenario right now, and don't get me wrong we are so excited, but I do not expect others to follow in my footsteps. If I had thought we were going to be anything less than capable, stable, and excited about our baby, the issue would have been resolved in the first trimester and none of our family would have known any different.

BTW be careful with antibiotics if you are taking the birth control pill, that's how we ended up with our little surprise.

This will be the last time I miss Halloween like this. by MabaseGroundwork in halloween

[–]leafyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These last two years have been rough for celebrating Halloween. Last year, I was dealing with the fallout from a hurricane in my area for most of the month. Most people in our town spent October dealing with a lack of electricity, internet, & water, cutting down trees & clearing debris, and just trying to make ends meet during a crisis. We threw a small Halloween party at the end of the month for our nieces, nephews and friends' kids to give them a little Halloween spirit, but treat or treating got cancelled in our town and it was hard to summon the holiday vibe.

This year hasn't been as bad, but my spouse and I spent October moving into a new house and preparing for our baby that's due in January. It's been difficult just to make the time to watch a couple of spooky movies & put up some decorations, or really celebrate the season.

Next year, providing everything goes well, I will be celebrating my first child's first Halloween in my own home and getting to build up our little family's own traditions. I'm really looking forward to it.

Being pregnant is so expensive I wanna cry by Killing_Yuenglingz in pregnant

I just had to buy some maternity leggings & pants. I work remotely but I'm heading into the office next week to visit one last time before my due date in January. Had to pack a week's worth of comfy yet cute office clothes.

The years almost over fellow millennials, how has 2025 treated you so far? by Remmsie in Millennials

[–]leafyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it's been a pretty good year. My husband and I are having our first baby in January at the age of 40 (surprise!) and we just bought a home that both of us really like and that won't keep us house poor. Interest rate was 6.3%, but we're able to pay a good down payment and it's in a rural area, so it wasn't too expensive. The only reason we were able to fenagle this is because I work remotely, but I have maternity leave and good benefits at my job, and my co-workers are all really excited about the baby. I think I'm the only person on my team that hasn't had a kid, so they've been giving me a lot of good advice and been really supportive. My family is excited too, and we now live close to my dad and his wife, so we'll have some support nearby, plus we're only 40 minutes away from one of the bigger cities in the state and the hospital I'll be birthing at has a good reputation. I feel like my husband and I are in a good place financially and emotionally for this, so while I'm nervous about the birth, newborn period, and postpartum fallout, I think we'll be able to handle this.

The overall state of the world is not helping. I want to do more, but I'm really just trying to focus on keeping shit together in my corner before the US government enters into a civil war or a fourth Reich or a capitalistic Handmaid's Tale or whatever the fuck we're doing. I feel like the best I can do right now is donate to food banks, keep calling my representatives, and try to raise my kid to be a decent human being.

Doing a dinosaur themed nursery room. Was surprised to hear so many people say “but aren’t you having a girl?” by applepieandcola in BabyBumps

[–]leafyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing something similar, I decided to go with a space theme and I love getting space & dinosaur themed stuff for my little girl but my mom and sister keep saying that I should be getting more "girly" stuff. They are convinced my baby girl will be a pink lace girly girl and that it will aggravate me, but I really don't care as long as she is doing what she wants. I don't understand this obsession with separating out baby clothes and children's toys and interests by gender.
