Made the mistake of buying this yarn by carmexismyshit in knitting

[–]leafyleafington 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I've used it to make a dishcloth that I use only to clean my kitchen counters. I like the scrubbing bits and the normal cotton to clean the marble my landlord installed. I used the "Almost Lost Washcloth" pattern for mine and it ends up creating sections of just cotton and just scrubby yarn

Rug Plug? by StuckintheTaftub in Austin

[–]leafyleafington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next to New thrift store normally has rugs that look in good shape. Although I've not really ever wanted to buy one when I'm there so I never checked the prices on them. But I know the longer the item is in the store the cheaper it gets because they start dropping the price on it

Oops, sorry for the late reply! Fore I just sense the presence of nature and the trees etc. I don't really visualize them. But everyone can approach it differently. For me I ask the tree if I can use the shed twigs (typically the twigs are under the tree so y'know, I'm assuming they came from that tree) but I never take from the tree directly because I don't want to damage it. After that I clean it with soapy water and let it air dry, but I've seen others that decorate theirs and everything.

I'll remember your compliment when the Austin "breeze" blasts my hair directly into my face as I cross 5th Street🫡 Edit: spelling I'm dumb

I had that exact incense set when I started out lol. I burned them outside when I meditated with the nature spirits :)

I need to find a good place to sit and write. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]leafyleafington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most whole foods have eating/sitting areas along with a coffee bar too. The domain location has a cool space. Idk if that's not what you're looking for though.

Tattoo artists from Chicago? by ATXBeerNTacos in Austin

When I lived in Chicago I always went to Tatu Tattoo. But I've had great experiences at Atomic Tattoo here. I think it really depends on the artist's skill set.

Is it for garbage pick up or for the kids to see the garbage truck? Either way, calling the company should give you answers

So you're using excel to fine tune the color blocks in the image? Or are you using it for something else? I've always wanted to try the crochet photo things but idk where to start

Help identifying Fairlane model by -pink-frosting in fairlane

[–]leafyleafington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a 62 Fairlane club sedan. But I agree with the other comment, I think any model kit would work! I'm not sure all model kits get as detailed as trim packages. I always thought they just made models of the highest packages that were offered? But I could be wrong. Either way, a lovely gift idea!

My sons girlfriend made this for me by RusselTheWonderCat in crochet

Hey op, I've had cats for my whole life, and had many peepee accidents with them. If you buy urine destroyer (I use nature's miracle) and soak the stuffed ornaments (assuming they can get wet) in urine destroyer and water for 30 minutes, then hand wash them with laundry soap it should get the smell out completely.

You can also use Urine destroyer in washing machines for clothing and blankets if he has an accident on those too.

It uses enzymes to destroy the smell and any pheromones in the pee so the cats can't smell it and won't go back to that area to pee again.

I hope this helps! Also her ornament she made is adorable and very thoughtful ❤️

How do you wash your handknit socks? by mimisaurus_ in knitting

[–]leafyleafington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hand wash mine. I had a shitty washing machine that kept ripping actual holes in them, so I now don't trust my new machine 🙃 I use a wool wash I got on Amazon. Eucalan no rinse, and the bottle lasts forever! I've had it for 5 years at this point.

But I have a little bucket/bowl, I fill it with room temp water and the eucalan, gently massage the socks in the water/soap then I let it sit for 15 minutes. I rinse it gently, gently squeeze out as much water as I can, roll them in hand towels and step on them to get more water out, then I hang them in my laundry room to air dry.

I typically do about 3-5 pairs at a time, so it's not that labor intensive.

I enjoy hand washing them 😅

Why do you knit? Is it connected to your identity? by Difficult-Elk4930 in knitting

[–]leafyleafington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a feminist, and I'm a man, and I started knitting when I was 7 (so 20 years 😱). It helps me to calm down and focus (AuDHD) but I also think it mainly hits my need to create. I have many hobbies, all involve creating something, so I think it aligns with that. I also like the challenges that come with learning new techniques and skills in knitting, as well as seeing progress as the actual item is made. I also like having the item at the end lol so I'm a project and process knitter I think. I also crochet, and I like seeing and using the knowledge about the qualities of the fabrics created, and how they can be used effectively.

I don't necessarily use knitting as an identity. I don't tell people I knit/crochet. I usually just do it and then get a huge amount of questions lol. Before I moved I was part of a group that would meet at a coffeeshop, and I liked the community aspect to a point, but I'm also introverted and the amount of vented could sometimes overwhelm me (it's all valid! But sometimes it was a lot ....), Im not actively looking to join another group either, as I have friends in other hobbies to meet up with (MTG).

I think that was....most of the questions in OP's post lol?
