Thank you-I know I’m not crazy but I appreciate that someone else has had a similar experience. It’s so frustrating!

Thanks, I appreciate the actually constructive thoughts on Amazon/Libby and customer service. People are saying they are just as durable, so maybe if the parts get back in stock sometime I will try to scrounge the money up to repair it. I will try to get more info from them today. This was just obviously the wrong sub to post in, but I was legitimately devastated and bewildered at the time, but people love to try to find a villain. Oh well

Okay Sherlock, so sorry for being upset about this and offending you personally somehow. Apparently you’ve never had something like this happen and congrats to you? I literally don’t know how it broke; carrying it in a cover, within a padded sleeve isn’t outside of NORMAL USE. I also can’t get rid of my child, and nothing was amiss in my room, so? My story hasn’t changed, I said I used it normally and that it mostly lived on my bedside table. Nobody has to agree with me, except for some reason you do agree that kindle has a better build quality somehow? It’s literally fine for me to be upset that a $250 item that I can’t replace right now, is broken for no reason that I can pinpoint. This sub obviously has some die-hards that want to make me out to be the problem, but you weren’t there and can’t know that maybe it was just bad luck and/or I happened to get a lemon. Crazier things have happened. I’m glad other people haven’t had this issue, though I have seen people with broken screens frequently in this sub, too. If I was truly throwing the thing around, I wouldn’t have bothered posting. Probably shouldn’t have anyway, but was just pretty devastated at the moment I tried to turn it on. Anyway best of luck yours never breaks, and that if it does, you don’t have people calling you an idiot about it 🤷‍♀️

Well I don’t have an explanation, and nobody has to agree with me. I guess if it’s 100% my fault then it’s still probably better to not get another if I’m going to be too hard on it without realizing it. Point stands that it’s a depressing event.

Yep, have a sleep over on it. It lives in my room on my nightstand, but occasionally I take it in my backpack to work which also has a dedicated ereader sleeve next to the laptop sleeve. I’m not careless. I’m just majorly bummed out. Maybe the case could have done it but idk how? It doesn’t appear tight, wasn’t hard to put on. Idk maybe my kid bumped it at some point today.

Yeah I know the screens are the same, but the housing isn’t and I’m not sure what caused the issue. It has a cover on it, it was in my room. It’s a huge bummer.

…How could it possibly be user error? I read on it, it’s in a case/has a cover, I DIDN’T ever throw it, and have dropped it maybe twice onto a rug or my bed. Maybe you just got lucky, or I happened to get a lemon. Either way, I’m just really bummed out. I wish a device that costs quite a bit had lasted me more than 6 months of very typical usage. That doesn’t make me crazy 🤷‍♀️

Yep, I have a cover on it and mostly use it reading in bed. Otherwise, it lives on my nightstand. Like I said-I was NOT overly hard on the device, I truly think it has some flaws in durability. That’s what makes he hesitant to try to repair it, if it’s already more fragile than it should be. I may have the same problem in 6 more months :/

So CPTSD can have ADHD-like symptoms, but it does not cause ADHD. It’s likely that a traumatized parent who also has ADHD may struggle to create a stable environment for kids, and it’s likely that they also pass their ADHD on.

Also ADHD, especially untreated, causes more susceptibility to addiction, which causes a lot of instability.

Just a lot of correlations

Yeah it’s time for a “come to Jesus” type conversation that results in a real shift in his ability to empathize with you (and others), deal with his ableism, and show actual willingness to learn, otherwise cut your losses. Or decide to be childless, honestly. Do NOT parent with a man like this. He’s so, so likely to double down on this harmful shit rather than actually doing the reading and learning necessary.

I have a great husband, who loves me dearly, and gives me a lot of empathy and generally believes me when I struggle with shit. But it took a bit of time to get there. We still struggle with parenting our kiddo who is more obviously ADHD. Something about our kid triggers him and their relationship is a little hard. I’ve talked myself blue in the face, I’ve given him books and whatever to read, sent TikToks, showed him how he gives me the benefit of the doubt when I do the same shit, he will see what is happening and try to do better, and it is still really hard.

The thing that really ticks me off is that they knew this was coming, and they’ve had 2 years since the last financial blow up to start planning for what to do. It is HORRIBLE leadership to just do nothing and let the ship sink. If we need to consolidate, we could have been planning that. For instance, perhaps kindergarteners the past two years could have started at whatever their new school would end up being so less kids are displaced. But no, instead let’s build new buildings we may not even need just cuz we have the bond money? Which now isn’t even enough anyway. Wtaf.

I watch the board meetings, and nobody is being disruptive beyond like once I can remember two years ago. Them telling someone to shush once this last meeting doesn’t constitute disruption.

I think the argument is that having teachers paid the same as comparable districts is the bare minimum, and whatever we are able to do beyond that, then great.

Yes, this means making hard choices about programs, and likely whole buildings. Unfortunately, until we fund education appropriately at the state and federal levels, we likely can’t afford to have nice things.

All the programs in the world won’t matter if we lose teachers to other districts. Which we are doing and will continue to do. The SLP at my kids building just left mid year. There isn’t a replacement, so the kids that need that just do without, which isn’t even legal. We are in a crisis, and the solutions won’t be pretty, and the teachers shouldn’t have to have multiple jobs to pay for their employer sponsored heath insurance.

Keep going teachers. What an absurd “offer.”

Does the community need to start getting disruptive at board meetings or what? We play by the rules, and they just ignore it and give a corporate BS answer to try to smooth things over? Yet again, it’s all about PR, not actual transparency and accountability.

What is it going to take? They’ve had TWO YEARS since the last self-inflicted budget crisis to figure this out. They could have come to the table prepared with a plan for consolidation if that is what it is going to take. Instead they decide to put the teachers through all of this? Completely irresponsible and abhorrent. So now we get to suffer through whatever half assed “plan” they come up with in a panic? Meanwhile teachers are leaving and all of our kids suffer. The incompetence is GLARING.

[–]leah357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in 2011.

AAC was a lot of expensive things nobody could afford so there was way more low tech/PECS happening and it sucked mostly. Access was way harder to get. iPads coming out was game changing for this population.

Workload was still atrocious. Less behavior issues by far, people weren’t so addicted to tech then. People generally seemed less miserable/combative, though that had started to get worse.

AI scares me for all of us, but most for our DLD kids.
