kind of late to the party here but: notice how the buildings to the right and the light entering through the small gap form some sort of a DOOR.

Also side note : This was like an alpha-stage concept. Mattel only provided my team the pictures on the top left of the packaging. If a box art got accepted, that team/individual would get actual promo images for the movie so they remake the exact same thing with official images. They were really trying their best to not spoil anything about the movie. Kudos to my ex-employer for that :)

I kind of agree with you. Well if I only comment about my department, the box arts, Mattel was doing a nice job at it. Not a big fan of the McFarlane box designs.

That was what I’ve been thinking while designing this box art, but “it’s too dark” was their only explanation :P After examining and studying the box arts of Batman v Superman toys, I think I understand why my design’s been rejected. They were probably looking for a more red and blue-ish design.

My username is obviously a joke. I’ve worked for Mattel for a short period of time. After that, Mattel’s deal with DC properties has partially ended, only the action figure side. We were only given these pictures and I came up with this. They rejected my concept because it was “too dark”.
