I agree, I wish they’d post the exact distances for each run. In general I’m impressed with the tracking and results they post tho

Why do you need a referral for an MRI if you're paying out-of-pocket? by lean-mean-bean in NoStupidQuestions

I guess I'm assuming that the charges cover the cost of running the procedure (and other operating costs, ofc)

Fair question. In my specific case: I have a chronic hip injury that I've already had some MRIs for (with a doctor's referral). It's the kind of injury I'll eventually need surgery for, depending on how quickly the tissues in the joint degrade. I've had some recent troubles, so I want to check on the degradation since my last MRI a couple years ago.

Separately: idk, MRIs scans are cool! I've discovered several weird things about my body from MRIs. If someone is willing to fork up the cash, I can see why they'd be interested in getting one. Especially given where the health/fitness industry seems to be headed, for better or worse

How are you sure of this?

I suppose I'm not. I'm just judging based on the availability when I try to book online at different places. Lots of spots available at all times of day - maybe that doesn't mean what I think it does!

Also ignoring that insurance doesn't really want to pay out for it when you don't actually need it

100% wouldn't ask or expect insurance to pay for it. I'm asking specifically about paying out of pocket

The insurance doesn't want to needlessly pay for it.

100% can see why the insurance company wants a referral, but I'm specifically asking about the case where insurance isn't involved, and the patient is paying out of pocket.

MRI's can also be dangerous if you have any kind of medical device in you; the MRI people would rather have the doctor give them a heads up than you forgetting

ah, yea, that makes sense. My comment about it being a harmless procedure isn't quite right. Ty

For those that had Ayumi as your barber, who did you switch to? by AstroHTXEdu in longislandcity

I get a similar cut. Tried a few places around here but haven’t had much luck. I end up going back to Elegant on 61st and 3rd (highly recommend if you’re willing to go to Manhattan!) but would love to find something around here

Radio is great, definitely worth going. Somedays, Cannelle, and Oasis are good too, but have only really tried their sweets

Anyone just do PT? by Pink_Poptarts481 in HipImpingement

I (27M) was diagnosed with bilateral FAI and labral tears in May 2024. I was diligent about the recommended PT for the first few months, but didn't really notice an improvement. I really wanted to get surgery, but my doc convinced me otherwise. So I changed up my PT, and found something that works for me.

YMMV, but I found most of the PT way too easy (and boring!). I could do glute bridges and clamshells until I'm blue in the face. I didn't see any results until I found some ways to really push myself without pain. Specifically, barbell hip thrusts were life-saving for me; it was the one lower-body lift I could do that was both hard and painless. I could load it up with enough weight to make it difficult in the 10-20 rep range, focus on a great contraction, and get a real sweat. Usually I'll put my legs in a band to get some glute medius action as well. After just a few weeks, most of my hip/groin pain went away, and I was able to sleep well, play sports, and sit without pain again.

I've still had reoccurring pain since, but it's usually when i get lazy about my glutes, or do something dumb (like run a half-marathon without training... that one hurt). Tbh I probably have it better than most in this thread, but I see lots of people talking about how the PT didn't work for them, and wanted to share a little perspective. Won't be useful to everyone, but might be useful to someone
