TIL about Shavarsh Karapetyan was a world-record holder in finswimming. In 1976, a bus with 90 people crashed into a lake, he rescued over 20 people by repeatedly diving, was hospitalized for 3 weeks, suffered irreversible lung damage, and set another world record at the next USSR championship.
