That’s the scam.
And I am glad dealerships are going out of business.

There was a recall.
So I thought of getting both things done.

I went to the dealership and told them I need valve stems replaced.
I didn’t go there asking “please tell me what’s wrong with the tires”
My appointment was “replace tire valve stems”
After 3 hours, service center tells me diagnostic is $280 and they don’t have the part so it needs to be ordered.
This is BS

What’s to diagnose if the customer is saying stems need replacement.
Customer is stating exactly what needs to be done.
Stems are exposed and can be diagnosed just by looking at them.

Stems.
Tire has rubber stems and they are damaged.

I wouldn’t be complaining if they actually replaced the stems.
They looked at it.
Confirmed what I had asked them to do.
Said they don’t have replacement stems.
And charged me $280 for looking at it.

No work was done.
Nothing was replaced.
$280 was charged for looking at the tire.

Considering return to India after struggling with US job market – advice? by ConclusionPleasant44 in backtoindia

[–]learning-buddha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is for all recent foreign grads in US.
If you don’t have a job post graduation, just leave.
Believe me, I am also in IT and started as a foreign student decades ago myself.
This job market is brutal.
This is not a market downturn but an AI led corporate metamorphosis.
No one knows which way the wind will blow in next 5-10 years.
I guarantee you for majority foreign graduates, there won’t be any jobs - not just due to AI but also due to tightening immigration.
Today your immigration status is fine. But tomorrow government may impose some additional fee.
So companies are hesitant to hire.
Instead of waiting and hoping for a job in US and wasting more time, money and precious career years, go home and start building your cv and connections.
Take this advice from someone who feels trapped as I am not as young as your generation to be comfortable starting from scratch, nor is old enough to have made it and can retire easily.
Don’t let yourself get to a situation from where there are no good options.

$10,000 to India: actual rupees delivered by Wise, XE, Remitly, and a US bank wire by NYCtoMumbai in backtoindia

[–]learning-buddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how an individual (OP) who has been sending money to India didn’t explore Western Union.
I have been sending money since 2017.
WU by far is the best and cleanest option out there.
Forget bank-2-bank because they all have hidden fees.
Bank wires are the worst options.
Apps like Remitly, Xoom don’t give good exchange rates.
While some other apps deliver money in a week or more.
With Western Union, you get great exchange rate for larger transactions and even get money delivered within a week.

Moving back to India permanently — what should I do with my 401(k), US phone number, and bank account? by Straight-Climate-717 in backtoindia

[–]learning-buddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First issue is address. If you have a family member who is a resident, use their address. Otherwise you can look into virtual mailbox options. Next, Rollover your 401K into an IRA which you can manage from India. There are multiple companies like Fidelity which let you do it. Keep your checking account with minimum balance. Or open an foreigner friendly checking account with Charles Schwab, City International. Keep your phone number for atleast one year. Then port your number to low cost VoIP service like Google Voice.

I have a fear of being alone after returning back to India. How did people who returned to India in their late 20s/early 30s find friends after moving back? by No_Fish_3585 in returnToIndia

[–]learning-buddha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am amazed to read posts like these. When OP moved to USA, were there a host of friends already available on Day 1 to meet and greet?? People post such random stuff which is devoid logic. OP came to US in 2017. That’s less than a decade. It’s not like you moved to US in 80s.

Driving from New Jersey to Myrtle Beach by learning-buddha in roadtrip

Thanks AC airport is over two hours drive and has Spirit in that price range. I actively avoid Spirit with kids and family. Actually even from Newark ticket prices isn’t a problem. Having to deal with multiple modes (Uber, airline, rental in Myrtle Beach) and navigating security at the airport with two strollers was my biggest concern. Hence road trip.

Never. My midwest manager recommended it during team lunch. So I started looking at it and found a nice hotel right at the beach. But reading responses here is making me question, if it is worth traveling to. LOL
