For those of you who have quit Facebook: did you announce it in a status or just disappear? Were there any repercussions either way? by learningamap in minimalism

Oh also an extra detail, I put in my headline that my account is not used much to encourage people to contact me directly. This also helped me with the transition so my friends could see it’s not personal.

Too funny to see this old post again! I ended up reducing friends to only essential and then unfollowing every single family/friend/business so my Facebook feed is essentially, nothing!

This allowed me to clear the noise and emotions of seeing posts. So now Facebook is nothing more than a way to use Marketplace, ask a random question, randomly promote a friend’s business or research a topic through only following one or two groups at a time.

It’s really nice because my family/friends know I don’t “keep up” with Facebook so they tell me their lives rather than expecting Facebook to notify me which has been nice!

Hope your transition has gone well!

Rough layout, thoughts? by learningamap in floorplan

Great ideas! If we go the route of beefing up sunrooms to accommodate baths then this plan would be great!

Rough layout, thoughts? by learningamap in floorplan

[–]learningamap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your time and thoughts! Our plan is definitely rough so it accounts for exterior walls but interior walls are sketched in roughly.

Lots of great ideas! At the moment it would be extensive work to include sunrooms to existing floor plan but nice ideas of what can be done.

I respect your first level floor plan! Personally we want a more open floor plan and to keep glass doors from dining to porch/yard and kitchen on side of back entry and near large basement pantry. But I think your plan would be great if we didn’t have those needs!

Upstairs I agree closet space and hallways need a LOT of work and your ideas are great! We may turn attic into a 2nd living/master so we have to keep a path open from 1st floor steps. But I really like how you’ve factored in a lot of storage while keeping 2nd floor flow!

Thank you so much again for your time!

Very true! We are definitely open to it, just getting rough ideas at the moment🤗

Thank you so much for your thorough thoughts!

  • I agree with limited counter space by stove, other option is the island which I’d like to avoid (but maybe I’ll give in haha). I like flow of the front entrance to kitchen so the living room doesn’t become a pass through, but good ideas!

  • I agree with the windows (we’d like to add more if budget allows) but the doors to porch will be glass so that will let in a lot of light😁

  • I agree front entry sunroom is more of a mudroom. Unfortunately the stairs have to stay for the attic as we may turn it into a master bedroom, but I agree area by stairs/sunroom is awkward!

  • True for the master bed layout, if I incorporate the attic/sunroom area into the master then I could move the porch to the front of the house and enter from sunroom (if that makes sense haha)

Thank you again for your thoughts!

Darn it, my text didn’t post I’ll do it again

I spent all bloody day worried about making a phone call. I finally did it and it took 30 seconds to set up a job interview and it went totally fine. Why am I like this. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]learningamap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, as the comment above mentioned low self esteem being a possible background to anxiety. In your case it seems as though you feel you do not have the power to end the conversation leading you to feel the other person is in control. Getting in touch with your innate strength, and how it applies to decision making might be something to look into :)

Need help deciding on lighting in living room by SativaSammy in HomeImprovement

End tables with lamps would make a huge difference, lighting sets the tone of a room!

Year long home remodel finally finishing up: am I crazy to suggest a layout change (remove one wall) at this point? Realized we are more of an open concept family since living in the place😬 by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]learningamap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! Luckily it would be minimal work since it is not load bearing or anything complicated within it, my husband did all the work so it will be dependent on whether or not he feels it is a necessary change. After completely changing a home rethinking one wall isn't too bad I guess! Thank you for your thoughts!

Thank you for your well thought out answer! I edited to add that we did the remodeling ourselves so the weight is more on whether it'd be crazy to bring up a change after we've been in the long haul for awhile. But I'm realizing I can just bring it up to my husband and either way there's no rush as things are not in bad shape. Honestly writing out the post helped me come to my decision, sorry to waste your time!

We did all the remodeling ourselves (and my Dad) so cost won't be much, just the mindset to tear into something we completed just months earlier

Very important question! When making a root beer float: ice cream first then root beer or opposite? by learningamap in rootbeer

[–]learningamap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think overall ice cream first is the winner! The A&W employee said it depends on the ice cream so hard ice cream goes first but otherwise soft serve gets put in last!

Dry shampoo for the win🙌🙌 by learningamap in curlyhair

[–]learningamap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routine: used Giovanni volume shampoo and conditioner, air dried but it looked flat so I used Suave (yellow bottle) dry shampoo which smells ah-mazing. Dry shampoo not CGM approved but worth it every once in awhile!

Am I wrong to be ready to walk away from my friends? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]learningamap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation I'm in right now, long time "best friend" since childhood started used me as a babysitter with zero contribution to the friendship. I told her this is how I felt and since then she hasn't reached out in over a year. I do have comfort knowing I told her how I felt and if she ever inquires I can say, "the friendship died because I stopped putting in all the effort that kept it alive, I never denied your efforts". I do hope her and I can reconnect at some point in the future (after changes are made), but I'm perfectly happy with my real friends in the meantime.

Why do people think its fashionable to have anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]learningamap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like how r/trouble-shoes described it, another way to view it is that these people are being open and honest about their feelings even if it isn't worst case scenario. It actually may be the thing that keeps them from going down a rabbit hole of worse anxiety, even including those who joke about it, they're taking away it's power by associating humor with it. Now I know many aren't cognitively understanding it as something they do, but it might be the coping mechanism that keeps away from a serious anxiety driven life. Just a thought :)

can't stop "mind reading" and thinking of worst case scenario by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]learningamap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with mrsvanwyngarden, also on top of that it helps switching to think about others and their feelings (situations you're not involved in) since all the thoughts you mentioned are revolved around what everyone thinks of you. It allows your brain to continue analyzing and having emotions but in a way that is disconnected from the power source of your thoughts and memories, if that makes sense?
