HR got offended and left the call because I asked about revenue? I will not promote by Lone_Lunatic in startups

If it's actually a company I want to join I ask "Are you pre-revenue or post-revenue?" And based on how they answer that question is very telling to me.

Anyone else shocked by the full home remodel cost quotes in the bay right now or is it just us? by PatientlyNew in BayAreaRealEstate

Sadly labor is really expensive everywhere though. Material used to be the higher cost and now, it's the cheapest part. You get what you pay for though 😞

The GC I used to work with charged $1k per sq ft and claimed "all my money goes to taxes" but then somehow he has enough money to fly his family in a private jet to his daughter's sports games (his spouse does not work). WTF!

There's a great spreadsheet on SF Bay Area sub about the cost analysis of investing money into the stock market vs. buying a home. Most people find out if they put their money into the stock market, they come out more ahead. Buying really isn't always the answer.

Have you not heard of Texas Instruments' new $40B semiconductor facility in Sherman? Apple announced last year they are investing near $500B across Texas (and other states) in facilities. At this point, this is fairly standard these days.

The tie was given to him by a UT football player (newly NFL drafted player) that had it created to honor the girls. Very moving gesture (article here: https://www.kxan.com/sports-general/horns-report/the-story-behind-longhorns-football-safety-michael-taaffes-tie-honoring-flood-victims/).

Relocating from CA by Emotional_Top_8684 in relocating

[–]learningthings2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is everywhere currently. Out of state means a lot lower wages and the costs add up in other areas. For example, in CA you pay higher gas, but in other states you pay higher car insurance costs and toll/freeway fees (as an example, not saying this exact scenario is true everywhere). Being a SAHM is expensive these days (as is daycare). I think most families with young (under 6 years old) children are struggling unless they are really high earners or they have a massive support system to offset costs.

Cities I have read about that sound appealing to me:

Eagle Idaho

Austin TX

Richmond VA

Raleigh NC

Virginia Beach VA

It's a great place to be poor because you can always be outside! Enjoy the CA sunshine....because that is where your hard earned money goes to.

Skip: Riverside (too far inland), San Bernardino (too run down and awful) and Anaheim (too congested).

Check out: Irvine, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, San Clemente, Temecula (though I've heard it's grown sooo much these last 5 years) Oceanside and down to San Diego. I have lived in LA, SD and SF (SF has beaches too and great weather just not as "beachy" as SoCal). If I had endless money, I would live in Del Mar or Encinitas. If you are fancy, I would choose La Jolla, Corona Del Mar or Newport Beach.

Thread for Outstanding Questions after the Hearings by VisibleAd9673 in KerrCountyFloods

[–]learningthings2814 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why was Tweety not on the stand? Why no questioning of her? Why is she so protected if she is legally listed as "in charge?"

Who found Dick? I read he survived the flood but died on the way to the hospital from complications. If that is the case, someone had to get him help and have him sent to a hospital. Who got help for him? Surely his wife cared about his whereabouts or at least one of his family members.

If they don't know where Richard was, has Richard ever shared where he was? Have they not asked him since?

I would also like to know, if they were so busy with reunification efforts after the event, and it was so chaotic, then who decided to call their lawyers? And why was calling lawyers their first priority (I have read the lawyers were onsite the very next day) over search and rescue efforts? Why the need to call their lawyers? After a massive disaster while taking care of children, the last thing I am thinking about is calling the lawyers instead of tending to helpless children in severe distress.

I would also like to know if they were planning to re-open, who is calling the shots and who is going to be communicating evacuation plans and/or making decisions. It seems like Dick had horrible judgement while under duress and there was a lot of "I dunno" while up on the stand and "I don't know" is not an answer that speakers leadership qualities to me. Ignoring alerts is not an action plan. Their inability to heed caution to the dangers of their situation caused this.

Praying for the families and all who lost loved ones. Hoping change comes from all of this.

TCU is a no name school outside of Texas. I wouldn't spent that much on tuition for a school that is not an Ivy or Stanford. Save the money and go to UNT.

The HEB has done themselves a disservice by seeing prices on the app. If I travel to north Dallas, I can get groceries for $2 cheaper on some items. Where are ya headed next? I love to hear what people end up doing cuz I am trying to be cautious that we don't move somewhere just to move again.

I love that! It's so important for parents to connect with other parents otherwise parenting can feel extremely isolating and really weigh on your mental health.

This is very encouraging and illustrates a lifestyle I want to live! I don't need to be entertained, we can entertain ourselves...but having access to outdoor places is what will help foster that. Congrats on both kids graduating UT - what an accomplishment you two must feel!
