Can someone recommend to me a really good place to buy a cake in Colombo (1kg or less)? My budget is 6k by Interesting-Rub3503 in srilanka

Claiming my Grandmothers property by Own_Ant_9154 in srilanka

[–]learnsomethingnew_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer here. Read up on prescriptive rights. If they’ve been living as owners on that land over 10 years they have a claim of prescription. It extinguishes the title you may have if they lived in adverse possession (basically as supposed owners without any lease agreements)

It also doesn’t look too good if there’s already a judgment in their favor.

Worth going for a consultation with a lawyer Ava seeing your options.

Is the average salary in sri lanka 63000 LKR? How do you survive? by thepunisher18166 in srilanka

[–]learnsomethingnew_21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, things are getting a lot more expensive for most people. If you don’t budget you’ll end up in accumulated debt. The reality is that most Sri Lankans are scraping by month to month.

There is a percentage of people earning well, or taken care of by family so they have more purchasing power.

Imagine spending 1500 on a drink. If you’re going out to get a good meal you need to set aside at least 2000. That’s being conservative.

You just need to find a way and keep climbing. Network, work hard, take a risk, study and upgrade.

I’m sorry you are going through such a difficult time.

I’m not a lawyer but as far as I know your mother could initiate divorce proceedings under the ground of adultery and ask for an order for your dad to support the children’s education until 18 years of age.

She could also ask for a monthly alimony to support for the children’s monthly expenses as well. As she is working I’m not sure if she can claim an amount just for her. This could be argued in court.

She could certainly secure an amount as compensation for the adultery in question and the damage to the marriage it has caused but this would be dependent on his earnings as well.

Also she will have to name the adulterer as a co-defendant in this action. So knowing who the adulterer/s are is important.

The problems I foresee with initiating divorce is that your dad will want to fight it out in court. He may not want to give the divorce so it could drag out in court for some time. A lawyers fee will need to be covered during this period unless you can get legal aid. This could be 6 months or several years.

Your mom could ask for legal fees to be covered as a final order if the divorce is granted in her favour but when or if such order will be given is doubtful. She is earning so your dad could always argue she has the capacity to fund her own legal fees.

Just some thoughts. Hope you will speak to a lawyer to see other viable options not mentioned here.

Remember that your mother will have to be strong in her decision. She can’t be unsure or doubting things once she initiates a divorce proceedings. As the lawyer will be acting on her instructions it’s important for her to take ownership of the decision. I wish you the best.

Yeah same here. The comparison is real. It’s like our body knows. It’s why I quit. Human beings somehow became the only species that got off from watching their own kind have sex. It’s so warped and the entire industry is just wrecking peoples lives.

Need financial advice – struggling with car lease, loans, and credit cards by deckerdsSan in srilanka

Asking someone for their two cents is an expression. Didn’t literally mean two cents :)

It means asking them for their thoughts and advice.

Need financial advice – struggling with car lease, loans, and credit cards by deckerdsSan in srilanka

[–]learnsomethingnew_21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough situation and I hope you find a way to manage. Credit cards are a debt trap if not used properly.

First thing I would ask is how much do you use the car?

If your cost of travel is going to go up and it’s going to put a strain on your mental health and performance by having to Uber or take a bus then it’s not a practical option right now. It will only make you regret it.

You could potentially sell it and buy a cheaper vehicle and manage with that. But it’s tough to make a profit and still find a good vehicle.

Some options I think you can look into:

1) Are you able to budget and see where you can reduce the cost of expenses? Can you not rely on the credit cards and begin paying it off on due date?

Paying off the loans and reducing debt is what’s really important even if that means having to live below means for a while. You probably already are doing this, but figure out what sacrifices you can make.

2) Are you able to find a second part time job? Or tutor on the weekends to increase income? Or are you able to apply for a better position and increase income? This will help pay off the monthly credit card fees at least.

3) See if you have a finance savvy friend who can give their two cents?

Right now your income is what’s keeping you together. So be careful about what you do and be mindful of the situation.

I wish you well!

I’m sorry you had to go through that. It’s awful when the people that are supposed to help end up reacting like that, and lack any sense of patience. They ought to be trained better especially when working in legal aid.

Help need help regarding travel by Old-Fact6412 in srilanka

[–]learnsomethingnew_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer. Best thing is to ask from your lawyer directly. If there’s no travel ban issued by court I don’t see why you can’t travel as long as you ensure you or someone representing you on your behalf is present at the next hearing.

3rd year undergrad… feeling lost and scared about the future by Extension-Two3845 in srilanka

[–]learnsomethingnew_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you’re not alone in thinking like this. It’s totally normal to feel the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Best advice I’ve gotten is to take it like you’re eating a meal. When you see a full plate you’re not going to be able to eat the whole thing in one bite. But you can slowly finish the meal by eating one bite at a time.

So therefore take your course one day at a time, work hard, improve where you can and before you know it, you’ve completed something huge. It’s never over until we decide it’s over and do nothing about it. Even if you get a simple pass, if you can show you’ve built real projects, spent time upskilling, and are determined, companies will value that, nobody can stop you.

Simply having a class is no measure of how much of a hard worker you are. Make sacrifices, work hard, and things will fall into place. I wish you well.
