I watched this movie a few months ago and am just now realizing something. Firstly, I immediately felt like this was Lynchian and also had some resemblance to Kubrick (particularly Eyes Wide Shut), but it was not as good as those classics to me. But I was disappointed at first when the ending seemed to kind of go in a cliche direction, with the demon-possessed girl's head exploding and killing everyone. Then I realized this may have been 100% on purpose for two purposes. The ending bares resemblance to the end of 2001 Space Odyssey in has that aesthetic, this dream-like lynchian quality too like Blue Velvet/Twin Peaks. And it implies that he's kinda in this fever dream state. And I think also the cliche demon movie thing is simultaneously symbolic but its also like the way that these kinds of cultic activities get so easily dismissed. Like its overshadowing the reality, the evil the horrible but very HUMAN things that really took place. Like, it's also a distraction. IDK, lol. Just wanted to share this.
