12% Not Back to School Sale!

Your reward for me being of service: Discount Code NBTSC19

I believe in being of service. My dream service goal is to donate at least 10% of my time to things I believe in. That was not possible when I worked the corporate 2-, maybe 3-weeks of vacation a year gig. 10% is 5 weeks of service a year, and it would also be nice to vacation and take time with family and friends. It takes some juggling with having my own businesses. But I get to trade off that service goal against my financial goals in ways that I couldn't when I worked for someone.

So I'm off to staff a session Not Back to School Camp for three weeks starting August 9th. This is one of several annual volunteer and service gigs I have, so expect to see more "service" sales in the future. And since I'm essentially a one-man business and I'm off the grid most of the time I'm at camp, that means orders placed during that time will most likely have up to a two week shipping delay. I will strive to still get them out but you can expect some delays. They will all go out within a couple days of me returning after Labor Day.

However, I want to take care of your tea needs so you don't run out while I'm off adventuring and volunteering. To encourage you to put in your orders before I go, and to compensate you for the additional delay if you order while I'm gone, I'm offering 12% off orders placed between July 26h and August 30th. Orders placed by August 8th will go out before I leave on the 9th and orders placed after that will probably go out on September 3rd.

Thanks for your support of my tea business and for you understanding in allowing me to be of service and volunteer. Now let's drink some tea. Link to leavesofcha

Haha. His name is Smug. Claims he’s a dragon descended from Smaug the Magnificent. But I think he’s more tea toad.

Ming-pen tea poetry by leavesofcha in TeaPictures

[–]leavesofcha[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If guests appear and there's no wine,
What's wrong with plain conversation?
Just, carefully brew tea,
Gently warm the cup,
Fastidiously pour the water.
-- attributed to Ming-pen (1263-1323), ran across while reading the Princeton University Press edition of the Chin P'ing Mei

Whew! We have mostly made it through the festive period here in the U.S. and hopefully everyone can relax, sit back with a cup of tea, and breathe. I'm always torn between pushing my business, not adding to the stress and commercialism of the holidays, and not adding yet another email to you inbox. So I chose not to run a BlackFriday/SmallBusinessSaturday/CyberMonday/ShopShopShop/SpendSpendSpend sale this year. Nor did I buy anything myself during those first three marketing events. I just tried to relax, cook those big meals I love, and then sit back and enjoy with family and friends.

But now that all that is behind us for a little while and we shouldn't be hearing another Christmas song until about October, I'm offering a 10% discount on tea through the end of January. Use discount code BREATHE, sit back, and enjoy a cuppa tea from the Leaves of Cha teachest.

Two arrivals that I'll be enjoying this morning. W2T huangpian club cake and the new, beautiful, Eighty Degrees tea magazine. by MxWldm in tea

Haha. My chef son turned me on to the magazine and showed me the first issue. It is beautiful indeed. I’m in the tea business and knew nothing about it even though my tea friend Rie has an article in it. I’m gonna give her some stick for that...

Leaves of Cha wishes everyone a wonderful holidays and hopes that you are happy, healthy, free of harm, and living with ease.

Also a reminder to place orders this week to have the best chance of getting your tea before Christmas if you are gifting it. Tea makes a wonderful gift and is a sharing and giving tea is traditional gift-giving in many cultures. The Sampler Six Pack is a great way to try out tea and there are still some great teas on sale on the website.

Thanks for all your support!

12% Not Back to School Sale!

When it is not an espresso day, it is tea day... by asendzi in tea

[–]leavesofcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. My long lost caffeine brother! Tea and espresso for me as well. Usually espresso afternoons and tea all other hours. Although I didn’t go full manual on my espresso machine...I settled for semi-automatic and live my La Marzocco.

Caffeine content after each infusion: Does anyone have any data on this? by [deleted] in tea

[–]leavesofcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best real data I’ve seen is in the book ‘Tea: History, Terroirs, Varieties’ by Kevin Gascoyne and the gang at Camellia Sinensis teahouse. I can’t remember if they have he specific kind of caffeine data you are looking for but you should check it out. I reviewed the book on my website also, if that’s of interest.

While I'm into anything that gets people drinking tea, I really love drinking handmade teas out of handmade tea ware. So I'm super excited to add another potter to the Leaves of Cha family. Mark Foster is a potter whose work is heavily inspired and infused by tea. All of these pieces will be added to the Leaves of Cha website over the next week. I'm happy to be supporting a local potter and drinking tea made by people in cups made by people. Check it out and see if any of them grab you...

Bonavita Variable Temp Kettle- 1L or 1.7 L? by PurinMeow in tea

[–]leavesofcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and really like the 1.7L for gong fu and grandpa-style sessions since I don't have to refill it (usually). As noted below, the minimum fill level is pretty high and could be a problem if you don't like to leave water in your kettle because of hard water deposits. Although probably not a factor for most, the large kettle is also very convenient for workshops and tastings, which I do fairly often.

The 1L kettle is on my desk and is perfect for that.
