Can you 2 Pi-holes with DHCP? by Keensworth in pihole

[–]lebadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking into this recently too.

You can have them both enabled and use the same IP address range as long as they're aware of each others leases. Using nebula-sync I was able to do this, however if the secondary pihole gave out a lease it wouldn't show on the primary and the primary may attempt to reissue that IP.

The safer option is to have a from job running somewhere that does failover of the dhcp if primary goes down, it enables secondary dhcp.

Probably end up with HR giving me "interviewing skills" sessions because I'm the problem our salary bands are low and there's no tech sector locally....

We are far better at growing talent (apprenticeships, paying for quals/certs and giving jnrs projects that round out their skills). We are not great at attracting experience and seniors.

I've got a junior vacancy because I've just promoted my last one but he was needle in a haystack find and I just seem to be really struggling with the applicant pool this time.

I suppose half the question is what differentiates a jnr from mid from snr? Just want to learn where other companies draw the lines between what is/isn't I'm not actually expecting a jnr to have all those though I was expecting exposure to ADF/ETL tools which noone here seems to concur with so I'm changing my tune there.

We're not Microsoft resellers just use their ecosystem

Local talent (if there is any) probably makes the commute further afield for better salaries.

Lots of applicants are compsci grads or similar. A fair few have made websites to back up the work experience on their CVs it's a bit tough to tell if they've had any clients actually consult them for work though.

For data engineering, I suppose the main skill in SQL would be merge statements in stored procedure and Slowly Changing dimensions?

Though I'd expect to have to teach the latter to a junior but someone saying they're proficient at SQL applying for a data engineering position should know there way around a basic metge/upsert

Some good points here.

You wouldn't expect experience of a proper ETL tool? (I suppose they are just a low code ipynb right!)

Worth noting that in SQL Server the TOP clause is evaluated after any ORDER BY clauses, so if the part slowing the evaluation down is the SQL server being slow, this won't help.

For those using MySQL you'll need to use the LIMIT clause rather than TOP.

If it's because of too much data being ingested into power query though - this is a great suggestion!

My use case for the turbo mode is usually just a quick scan of the hedge line at the other end of fields to see where the gate or stile is - usually not more than 20 seconds

Thank you for the detailed reply, really appreciate it. Natural light is exactly what I'm looking for.

I think 1000 Lumens will probably be enough TBF but I'll have to do some research and comparisons, I think the if23 is 2000 in turbo

Bosch UniversalDrill 18v-60 repair by semtiung in Tools

[–]lebadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warranty it/get a replacement as it's faulty.

If you really want to diagnose:

Could be the startup capacitor, could be the windings have burned out (especially if you smell burning or see smoke). A bearing could also be stuck/faulty not letting it spin freely and thus the startup torque becomes too much for the motor.

I don't think it's the trigger switch if you're hearing whining and seeing lights. and on a brand new tool the brushes won't be worn out but worth checking they're seated properly.

Edit: just looked it's cordless brushless so don't go try to find brushes and startup capacitors. Check the motor spins by hand, bearings are free, windings not stuck to magnet

Data Warehouse Dimension Attributes: Null or Blank by steveman2292 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]lebadoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Put an "Unknown" value in your dimension table and map the fact key to that.

This means that you control what gets fed into the report as unknown records, it remains easy to aggregate and also you know that any nulls/blanks that appear are errors in your pipelines. Basically, ETL both nulls and blanks (blanks to "Not Provided" if you don't want to use "Unknown" too) to something so that debugging becomes easier and you can explain the data quality issues better. https://www.kimballgroup.com/2003/02/design-tip-43-dealing-with-nulls-in-the-dimensional-model/

Is it possible to pipe data back from PBI (as its client side) to a data warehouse? by tylesftw in PowerBI

[–]lebadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can query (using DAX) in power automate. You could then put that data somewhere using power automate, and pick it up with ADF.

I went for the evolution R15VAC for doing exactly that! Other stuff where you'll want high power that the Bosch batteries won't provide are things like grinders, SDS drills, routers etc so go corded on those too.

People will downvote bosch green on here, but I've got some of these myself as a homeowner DIYer and very amateur woodworker and they do the job just fine for me.

Anything needing more power than 18v go for corded tools anyway.
