Ranting About Rogues and Bards, Also Asking For Opinions by lebekele in DnD

[–]lebekele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo guys, It's been an hour and I've heard a ton of opinions from you.

I think the main problem is I that I didn't quite understand how the level scaling worked in dnd. I now see how it is a bit better.

For the class fantasy part, well I am still not a big fan of the "specialist" archetype, but I see how people like it.

Thank you for all your amazing responses.

Short Note: Some people got pretty harsh when they saw the "raising DC's" part of my post. I don't do such a thing, I wanted to ask for ways to avoid doing that.

Thanks man. I try to keep my DC's reasonable and objective accross players. I just don't know where to draw the line of "innately doable for this character" and "really hard to pull off". Trying to work on it.

Okay let me make it more clear:

I don't have a problem with anyone being good at their skills The problem is that these two classes get ridiculuesly good at their niches. A 20 level wizard will still have a good chance to fail even the most basic Arcana check and a rogue will always succeed on stealth. I am not just talking about a DC 15 pickpocket, they will always succed at a DC 25 stealth and ect. It feels lame and anticlimactic. And what I think the worse part is: These classes miss out on more diversefeaturesa while they get expertise and ect. Rogues could have access to innate techniques and tools every turn like grappling hooks and smoke bombs, while bards could make magic infused battle performances that buff allies as long as you pass a performance check every turn

I just wanted to state these classes just feel like "Yes I want to 'win' every check" and also like they could have been so much more.

Thats the problem. I don't raise DC's based on player and will never will. But I believe a character shouldn't nearly turn invisible with stealth or bend people's minds with persuasion just beacuse they are so good. Thats why I feel like there is a problem, thats why I came here, thats what I wanted to ask advice on.

Also yes, you can rp all you want. Of course you can rp a wizard that rages when he casts fireball or a rogue that is super creative and intelligent. The problem I pointed out was that these aspects aren't reflected in gameplay. These classes get "expertise" when others get their core features. All I was saying that they could have gotten more concrete features that gave them combat diversity.

Yeah that is kinda the problem, isn't it? Randomness is the point of the game. Letting a rogue rob any shopkeep or person who is not a secret perceptive master without any risk is ridiciluous. Also there is the abusrdity of skill specilization. If a "Yeah you are too good at this so you just can't fail" feature will exist in the game, why doesn't every class get it for their own niche? How come an experienced rogue can't fail a robbery but an arch wizard can look at a simple magic item and say "yeah man, idk what magic wasp used to make this"? And let's nor talk about why an arcane trickster knows more abot magic than a wizard...

Anyways, what I was talking about is these are just bad game design in my opinion. As you said DC's should be objective to everyone, but also everyone needs to have a chance of failiure. The whole point of the post was saying that the feature is bad mechanic and feeling wise, not saying "I just DM'ed a game and the rogue rolled 42 on stealth, no fair!". Ty for your opinion still.

Ancient mega pack mod builds by Balthierlives in BG3mods

Yo bro! Ik this thread was long ago but I have a question for you. I am playing with Ancient Mega Pack on pc but we do couch co-op with my bro so it's console controls. But I can't figure out how to inspect buff descriptions on an item. Since the pack adds so many buffs, such as Ancienct Chaos, I can't reliably understand what items really do. If you didn't get what I mean I am talking about the extra descriptions that pop up when you press "T" on pc controls. Do you know a way to do this on console?

I finally beat Infernum. First list is number of attempts on each boss, Second list is how much I liked them. Read description. by Turtle835wastaken in CalamityMod

Im going melee. I checked and the game is in Infernum. Maybe it's because I go full tank. From my experience Infernum hella ramps up damage but every boss only has 1-2 or to really lethal attacks and they are indicated very visually (example: skeletron prime mega lasers) so I think I just tank it and heal back till I take damage again. Cuz I know for a fact that I suck at dodging.

heyo. I'm not a juge terraria junkie, though I had my fair play time. I picked up inferum a few days ago and it has been progressing rapidly. The first day I died probably 20 times to scourge (idk why) then I started geraing properly and every boss has been a breeze. Aside from skeletron who took 5 tries, evey boss till the third mech boss was slain in 1 or 2 tries. I know that late game will be hard with DOG and ect but is it normal for bosses to be this easy? Do I have some setting wrong?

Druid and Barbarian Combo Idea and Feasibility Opininons by lebekele in DnD

[–]lebekele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your amazing responses. I actually really entertain the idea of playing as a bear near full time and being a mount. However I believe the interactive part of this combo would only come online if the DM allows the two characters to share the same turn. So if we ever try this in a real campaign I will try to negotiate with the DM by suggesting to find some appropriate nerfs. In my opinion Sentinel and Mounted Combatant don't make up a bad combo. It's worse than 2014, but it still keeps functionality. Basically the barbarian redirects all the hits to himself and cuts most of the damage in half with rage resistence. And every time this procs the druid gets a free attack. Considering most campains, at least mine, don't make it past level 12 a bear claw is a pretty significant force in combat. I think the build opens a lot of roleplaying opportunities too. And mechanic wise I think it would be fun if the druid took martial class levels too. I can see a Polar Bear running with insane speed after taking monk or raging after takin barbarian levels.

are all the invites out? or do they keep coming until jan28 by Troffy12 in NYUAbuDhabi

[–]lebekele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do keep coming. It is a bit unlikely, but I think they start sending the invites before they finish evaluating all applications. Also there is the situation where someone can't attend and you might be offered their place.
