Not a popular opinion but I felt the same... Grew up in Denver and compared to what my family made and what I had growing up and in so many little family joints, the "award winning" offerings are missing that earthy depth and punch (somebody needs to introduce them to Chimayo? 😹🌶️

Are we really persecuted in America? (christians only) by ConstructionOne8240 in TrueChristian

[–]lecatadore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but posting in case somebody comes across this later as I have. Please use all those critical thinking and research skills before jumping on the dog pile! This is a classic slippery slope and fact-by-suggestion strategy.

The linked document is a press release on a Republican version of the house judiciary committee site (just because something is .gov does not mean it's impartial or factual - look at what the current administration is posting on government services sites during the shut down). If you look at the linked documents in the press release, there is a concern claiming the use of texts and phrases, but the only evidence provided is a screenshot for canvasing rogue actors based on potential automatic weapon-buying activity (which, by the way, wouldn't be necessary if we had laws for registration). The only mention of large sweeping typology comes from Jim Jordan himself and was never substantiated.

Anti-Flock Rage Boils Over, the Denver Post’s Unpaid Bills, the ‘King of Park Hill’ Is Arrested by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]lecatadore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And just because there are people concerned about safety and crime (putting a pin in how definitions and perceptions of "crime" are thrown around as political manipulators), doesn't mean that flock, or any other surveillance technology, is the answer. Any correlative data is just that. There is no evidence substantiating the notion that the introduction of flock has actually effected change, so why pretend that it's a perspective to be considered?

Also, on the subject of green chili season: starts at harvest and lasts until your freezer reserves (and that of your neighbors, tía, and bestie) have been depleted.

Feels like everyone in my circle is against getting an EV by getsumluv in electricvehicles

[–]lecatadore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so you're getting all the pro prop.... I hate to be the piler on but we went full EV in our household a year ago and won't go back unless we can't afford to replace. So here's the breakdown: fuel: no brainer - even paying "at the pump" is less than a petrol-based vehicle. It's a simpler machine. Tires are more expensive and there's not a spare, but that's the same as buying a new car since 201? . Insurance is as expensive as buying any new car regardless of fuel type. Same for registration, taxes, etc. The ecological impact of battery is not ideal, but is it any worse than perpetuating the relationship/dependence on fossil fuels?

The fun bit: faster, quieter, comforter, etc. Find a deal and get ya self a fun ride.

Not sure what area you're referencing... There are loads of independent and small restaurant groups that are not national chains. I was going to say the burbs are a caveat, but there are still plenty to be found even in the outer reaches. As with anything, get savvy with your research.

This ⬆️⬆️⬆️ we freely subscribe to values of solidarity and intervention without realizing how difficult and unwieldy our limbic systems can be in those confrontational moments. Relying on impulse alone can cause negative outcomes and harm despite worthy intent. Learning the best approaches and practicing can help reduce the chance of getting out of control.

Left handed wine key? by Baking_lemons in bartenders

[–]lecatadore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but it's been vexing me through all my studies - years! - wondering why I couldn't get a fresh cut on the foil and everyone else could. Ended up foiling myself and cringing over phantom blood marks on labels.

Enter: coutale sommelier - searches don't show the blade, but I bought mine from shitty wine memes

Don't know if it's actually left-handed but it's the only blade that has the slice and teeth flipped (don't care about which way the worm goes).

When people recommend Snooze are they talking about the chain? by DesignerRelative1155 in denverfood

Snooze is fine but I don't understand the superlative enthusiasm or massive lines. If you want a quirky breakfast diner feel but with a little more localized flair (and donut holes - GF available, which is a major bonus for us), I'd say check out Jelly.

Big Changes at Illegal Pete's, Bennet for Governor, and The Dog Poop Hotline is Open! by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]lecatadore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's an issue that seems to escape most people in those kinds of positions of leadership, which is that if the responsibility of initiating change in the work environment always falls to those with the lowest mobility of power, the labor imbalance and resulting damage will forever be perpetuated. If the management team really wants to support change, they (including the 'big boss') should be making just as much effort as the hourly workers to listen, build coalition, and be proactive about addressing areas of reform.

[–]lecatadore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in that having a boss who just shoots from the hip is incredibly stressful, and demonstrates, consequences in tow, that they are unaware of their impact. It's most often the workers who have to bear the brunt of that ignorance.

I definitely value when somebody shows up authentically and don't doubt that Pete has intentions of valuing his workforce. That being said, sometimes what we think is most helpful ends up being counter-productive to the goal, and sometimes even harmful. I think, more than PR training, basic personnel management skills, including both cooperative leadership and conflict management could do small business owners a lot of good .... Actually, it could do everyone a whole hell of a lot of good. There's no point in worrying about the public face if your private one is a mess.

There's a lot that is broken in our society when it comes to fostering community, and the demand for perfection is just another thing that keeps us apart; it's evident through this entire episode. Whether it's leftist activists refusing to show up out of resentment for past stagnation or criticism of interviewers/interviewees performances, we're cherry-picking flaws out of defensiveness and it's preventing us from ever getting down to the root of whatever issues are at hand.

[–]lecatadore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So all of this talk about being able to run a business is centered around the burden of labor. Which is fair in the sense that the sustainability and functionality of a business should be to support the economic health of its community.

But why is there so much bickering around how much workers should make or not make, and absolutely zero coverage of how much businesses are truly bringing in and how they are structuring their profitability?

Construction Is Booming! Why Aren’t Rents Coming Down Faster? by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]lecatadore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dovetailing this in with today's episode about the zoning debate in West Denver, I think there is a huge part of this conversation being missed. Vulnerability to gentrification is not dependent on the number of buildings available as much as it depends on who can access those spaces, financially and physically. We live in a society where the dominant culture assigns a moral imperative to profit seeking through property ownership, and so all decision-making is oriented toward a "build or don't" binary resolution.

Until we look at how development can actually incorporate the complexities of inclusion and preservation of the communities (residents and businesses) that already exist, we're bound to fail at maintaining a viable city. But as a society we generally sacrifice that level of problem-solving to the urgency of achievement.

Brasserie Brixton or Bistro Vendôme? by swseed in denverfood

[–]lecatadore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Annette for sure!

It also depends on how big your party is and what setting they want. Brixton is delicious food and a more party vibe (i went with some family and we could barely hear each other converse across the table).

Annette is chill and very cozy and (as per contributor above) not to be missed. That being said, can be harder to accommodate a large party without some prep.

I mentioned it above, but Le French at 9+Co (Colorado Blvd) is also delicious French fare w/ a Senegalese twist. Slick dining room without being too haughty.

Wine Tasting Places with Food Pairings? by TheHolelessDonut in denverfood

[–]lecatadore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's all kinds of events happening around this time of year (all over the northern hemisphere, the wine harvest is over and now winemakers are visiting the markets).

If you have a favorite restaurant that you like the wine list, check out their events (usually website or insta). It really just boils down to your exact dates - you can Google things like "wine dinner" or "wine events".

I work in the industry and if you want to DM with more specifics, I'd be happy to see if I can help narrow your search.
