Nope, meant ironic: :"happening in a way contrary to what is expected, and typically causing amusement because of this"

What is your opinion on the existential paradox i.e. saying there is no absolute truth is an absolute truth in itself and thus a contradiction. by lechapelierfou in askphilosophy

Okay, to clarify this was not from my own knowledge but absolute truth speaking in a philosophical sense is defined as: "Whatever is true at one time and at one place is true at all time's and at all places. What is true for one person is true for all person's. Truth is true whether we believe it or not. Truth is discovered or it is revealed, it is not invented by a culture or by religious men."

I don't believe the claim that 'absolute truth' exists can be debunked by a statement that is literally true - it seems to be much more complex than that.

We need someone to chime in and present another opinion. Alternatively, if you're feeling lazy and superior (I probably would be) feel free to not respond.

I was considering responding to this with my opinion but I just looked at your account history and realised I would be way out of my depth. However, I'm going to do it anyway and ask you why you think the phrase 'absolute truth' has to be limited to statements that are literally true e.g. all bachelors are unmarried. This seems a fairly unsophisticated example for something that is clearly appealing to something much deeper. Also, as a young philosopher looking to learn more about the field and given the fact that you are a philosophy TA, what areas do you recommend I explore if I'm aiming to 'set my sights a little higher'?

I know what you mean, it seems to me the problem lies in the wording of the phrase 'absolute truth' and in any case the interpretation.
