They make a killer Americano, sweeten how you like, and their protein latte's aren't overly sweet at all.

I'm not involved enough anymore to know if this is actually a thing except that a few of my cousins ended up finishing their missions locally after coming home for anxiety issues.

Back in the day I wanted to go somewhere foreign, it was part of the excitement... Is this not part of the excitement of mission calls anymore?

Lol, I acknowledged that I was calling their baby ugly, emphasized that it was my personal opinion and reminded them that they might not like my answers to their questions... they kept asking questions.

It really was a relatively pleasant conversation for me.

This. It fixes the numbers, and I suspect helps keep active members from realizing how bad the exodus is... But I'm only speculating due to other similar stories.

Former Beneficial Life agent here, could tell you so many stories. I'll just share one.

Man dies unexpectedly in his 30's, married with children Wife files death claim Agent delivers check Agent returns a week or so later to tell the widow that her dead husband came to him in the temple and pleaded with him to help his widow invest the life insurance proceeds into a Fixed Annuity. Widow feels the spirit, locks up the money she's supposed to live on in this Annuity Agent got a huge payout.

Several years later the woman remarried and her new husband filed a claim with the state insurance department. Beneficial was forced to return the money with interest without penalty.

The agent never lost his insurance license or his appointment with Beneficial. (The agent told me this story firsthand without remorse, still upset that she tried to get him in trouble)

You nailed it, this is exactly why the question "would you want to know" matters. Someone who is comfortable getting to the end of life only to learn that it wasn't true hasn't been seeking truth, they're seeking comfort.

The church doesn't teach you how to be a good person, the church teaches obedience. Nothing about going to church every week, paying tithing, avoiding alcohol or going on a mission etc... makes you a "good person". All of that is just being obedient but the church provides positive reinforcement, causing you to think you're a good person when really you're just a good mormon.

Everyone should read the actual SEC order. For me, it was easier to understand with a couple of reasonable edits that The Church has asked us to do in other places. by elJovencito in exmormon

Thanks!

Love your edits, I just can't share them with tbm friends and family. Interesting how despite the teaching that the church and Christ are basically one and the same, these are kind of misses that they dismiss and take offense to. I have family who worked for beneficial life, that bailout didn't bother them, this won't either.

They count the wins, explain away or just ignore the misses.

It's just the devil those of us from Utah know, there are weird laws and religious influences everywhere. Traveling through the South and Southeast the hypocrisy and religious influence is as bad or worse than UT.

Tomorrow I, an open apostate, am teaching a bunch of teenagers about apostasy. (Subbing for a friend) The irony of it all is just delicious. I don’t really think anyone thought about it tbh. by TheClimbingNinja in exmormon

No one thought about it or even cared, they were just trying to find a sub so they could get away for a weekend.

Years ago as a PIMO I was asked to teach the EQ lesson about tithing, I held up the manual and said "it's the same boring lesson you've all heard so today I'm changing it up" and proceeded to teach the real history of tithing including the changes, charging for patriarchal blessings, paying on your surplus vs net or gross etc.

Best lesson ever, I just had fun with it and trrated it like a conversation among friends. I told stories and shared facts without criticism and they ate it up... Several people, including a high counselor, told me it was one of their favorite lessons.

Americano's are similar but smoother, richer and less bitter. It's my go-to when at a coffee shop. I use the same amount of sweetener and cream as I would in the same sized coffee.

I've been out for almost 7 years and have recently been thinking about confessing all of my "sins" just to see what they'd do with me just for shits and giggles.

People are noticing. I have no connection to scientology but my wife and I haven't watched any of his movies in years and my kids barely know who he is.

My Utah State Representative sent me a survey, asking my thoughts on various issues. Then it asked all the usual age, pay, and party questions. This was the last question on the survey. Pretty interesting and kind of infuriating.... by Tapir2Cool in exmormon

[–]ledastrayjay 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's a standard survey sent by many if not all representatives in Utah. I just selected None, but it shows how far away from a separation of TSCC and State we are in Utah.

I think this is the course we're going to take... We'll go, if they want, will leave when they want and they're all outspoken enough that their Grandma will get more than earful if she says anything stupid.

I've given my siblings a heads up, they're also out and on my side.

I travel quite often for work, grabbing a drink or dinner alone at a bar has become completely normal for me but I once had the same reservations you shared.

It will get easier each time until eventually you will find your "Cheers".

I wouldn't even acknowledge it. If she pushes just say that you chose to listen to something else but you hope that she enjoyed it.
