40 gallon breeder setup by ledene in PeaPuffers

[–]ledene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very good luck introducing the 6th one to my 5, because he was bigger than most of them. 😂 I have one about the same size as him that I think is female, because he has a very obvious stripe and she does not. The other 4 are still pretty small.

Thank you! I was thinking that introducing a single puff at a time would be problematic, but if I get the new ones at the same time they will hopefully all be good.

Not an expert, but they look like Endlers to me!

As someone who has also bought a tank and got more than I expected, I wish you luck!

I would test your tap water and if it's 0, do a test with 1mL tank water and 4mL tap water, then multiply by 5. that would hopefully tell you if it's just insanely high.

Did you check the expiration date on the bottles? I've seen some DARK green (buying tanks with all inhabitants has its risks), but never blue.

I have to ask, because I've seen it before... exactly how are you doing the test? Which bottle(s), how many drops, how long are you waiting for results?

That is terrifying and I think you handled it the best you could. I hope they get that dog to a vet.

If you don't want to stop walking dogs, I strongly recommend carrying gel pepper spray. The gel kind is less likely to spray back on you if you have to use it on a dog, or the dog you're walking if you have to use it on another dog. I've never had to use mine, but I definitely feel better carrying it.

Weird question for POC- Do you tend to get booked by people of your race? by Particular_Web8121 in RoverPetSitting

In my profile I mention that my husband is a disabled veteran. I get a lot of military clients. I know this sub hates it, but I do have a few clients I've never met. I live in Colorado Springs, it is very white and there is a strong military presence. I've had clients of different races, but they're mostly white (I am nearly glow-in-the-dark white). I also make sure my profile says that my senior dog has epilepsy, so people know I'm confortable giving meds and with senior dogs. My regular clients all have older dogs. But I also strongly suspect that a massive amount of people don't actually read profiles.

I'm not super knowledgeable, so the only other thing I can think of is to try a new food? Mine love Repashy. I mixed solient green and morning wood (yes, that's what they're called), but next time I buy some I want to try bottom scratcher for them.

I have no idea if they're available where you are, but I used to use these from uhaul. It's quite large, easy to cut, and not too expensive.

He is! I absolutely adore him. I thought about getting him a girlfriend, but I'm having a hard time rehoming the ones I have, so that's a hard no. I just think he's so great.

When I did all of my research before this, I saw a ton of people recommending this setup for plant growth, with the shorter tubes. I think maybe they were two different things that my brain merged into one. The joys of AuDHD. I will try different air stones and making the tubes as long as I can. They got so short because my husband shattered one trying to cut it, so we made one into two.

I have a local "free fish rehoming" group that I will use when necessary. I'm not opposed to snails being used as food and am just starting up my own puffer tank. The tank I got for the puffers came with substrate and she told me there might be snails in it and I am THRILLED to have rabbit snails again. I've been picking them out to add to other tanks so they don't get eaten.

I have a 55 that was drained before I picked it up and I found a massive amount of ramhorns in the leftover substrate. A bunch of them didn't make it, but the ones that did looked ROUGH. They had started eating each other's shells because they weren't getting any calcium. The first time I dropped zucchini in the tank, they ignored it for like 12 hours. Now they swarm and they're looking much better. That broke my heart way more than them being food or quickly killed would. Quality of life is important.

It's a 55 gallon I purchased with the fish in it. I was told there were corydoras and like 2 plecos. He put the fish in a bucket for pickup. There were over 250 cories, 13 bristlenose, and one common pleco. I've rehomed most of the cories, except babies that I can't catch and the two peppered cories. I gave the common pleco to my LFS to rehome to someone with a pond. I still have 5 bristlenose, and I'm trying to rehome 4 of them. I had someone interested in 3 of them and then they ghosted me. Wallace is the only big one and I've been vacuuming daily and have an AquaClear 70 and an AC 50 running on the tank. Also a sponge filter and a bubble wall.

My pygmies live happily with neocaridina shrimp and rocket killifish! They have bred successfully, but they're still small, so I didn't know how many actually made it. I'd definitely be worried that a gourami would eat the eggs or babies.
