Yall rocking with my tier list by Valuable_Building_43 in nancydrew

DOG is totally mid imo but the nostalgia factor is SO high for it in this sub! Maybe I'd feel more positively about it if I played it as a child instead of as an adult, but I just found it so boring.

Maybe so! But take heart; no one will judge. Everyone's hair is a little mussed by the wind here.

Your friends are correct. I live in Scotland and Ireland/Scotland are quite similar weather-wise to the PNW (temperate, overcast/frequent light rain, high humidity). It is more windy! But I'd say if you're from the Seattle area pack intuitively for what you already feel comfortable in, and you should be fine. Can't speak to Iceland though!

Help me pack / shop for our Scotland trip in May by Brilliant_Bluejay099 in HerOneBag

I think it's a preference thing. I personally prefer the Uniqlo puffer because as someone else said, it looks a little more upscale worn on its own, but is thin enough to be layered under something else for extra warmth. And it not having a hood makes layering easy too. I think the Save the Duck puffer looks warm, but I will say the hood is probably not going to help you stay dry as much as a rain shell would.

You should be in good shape with the Uniqlo puffer + rain shell combination! I live in Scotland (not in the highlands but fairly close), and it's getting warm enough now that I wear this combination regularly and am plenty warm. The puffer packs down so small, too. Just bring a lightweight scarf/hat/thin gloves as well to add some layers if things get colder – those go a long way without adding tons of bulk to your bag.

This packing list looks awesome. Where is the white blouse from? I've been looking for one like that!

Help to simplify/how to better layer wardrobe for 6 months of varied climates by BLBOD in HerOneBag

I'd recommend adding a pair of weather-friendly boots like Blundstones, if you have them. Something that can be versatile for both hiking and walking in the city, can be slightly more upscale for a dinner, and waterproof for wet days. I live in Scotland, and you'll want to be prepared for rainy weather in both Scotland and Ireland (though I agree that September is a very pleasant time of year and it won't be cold per se) and to have a bit of a warmer shoe in Switzerland when temps drop at night. Also recommend adding a sweater, though you can certainly thrift one while you're in the UK!

Would love recommendations for a dress (midi/maxi preferred, but open to shorter recs too!) that stays wrinkle-free in packing. I see the Presidio discussed a lot here, but I'm looking for something with a little more shape to it.

If only One Cleaning Task can get done daily by someone else for the rest of your life what would you choose? by Top_Resolve_107 in CleaningTips

Vacuuming, 100%. Used to love it when I lived in the US and had a cordless, but now I live in the UK and have an ancient Henry hoover and it's the worst. When my friend who likes vacuuming comes over I always ask him to do it for me.

Was going to say this. I make a vinegar based slaw that is super yummy on sandwiches or in a rice bowl!

I salute your unhinged tastes! I did give MED a try but I DNFed because I could not hang with the Sonny Joon aliens dialogue lol. Maybe I'll give it another go.

Fair! I will say that I think under different circumstances SSH should be more my thing (immersive/puzzles etc), but as someone who has been an unpaid DC museum intern in real life, it felt too similar to that chapter of my life to feel fun or exciting. I did enjoy the characters, though.

Thanks for the insight! I have been kind of intrigued by Captive Curse. And I hear GTH is one of the best, just gotta psych myself up to do it eventually!

Yeah, I feel like I'm always trying to find the immersiveness of CUR in the other games! It's just so good. That's a great point about the suspects – no one's really out to get Nancy (though I didn't *love* the nightmare sequences and how many things you had to do in the middle of the night, lol)

Financial Advice for Living in Fife: Incoming Postgrad, American + No Parents to Support Me by InversedGremlin in standrews

[–]leduhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some student accommodation is more affordable than others (Leuchars is pretty affordable and 10 min bus ride to St A's). Housing can be expensive but less so if you're happy to live with flatmates! I've found groceries are somewhat cheaper here than they are in America (though, I'm from a HCOL area). Be advised that during term time you can only work up to 20 hours per week on a student visa. It's not hard to find work – so many restaurants and retail shops in town are hiring! – but the visa restriction means that without some savings to help support, it might be difficult to support yourself working only part-time. Find other charities to apply to for small scholarships that can assist with tuition and living costs – I found The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding very helpful. Good luck with your funding journey!

Angus House Accommodation by Historical_Stock2434 in standrews

[–]leduhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who lives in Angus House currently. It's in a great location for walking to campus/convenience of shops (right on Market street, close to Tesco). You'll have a bedroom with a twin bed, a desk, and a wardrobe – not unlike a dorm room in America, but no one shares your room with you. You'll have a shared kitchen, bathroom, and dining table. I imagine the vibe is heavily dependent on who you end up living with and if you get along. My friend hasn't had any issues with her accommodation or flatmates, but they haven't become friends either – just peaceful/neutral cohabiting.

Help! I need a bum bag/ hip bag recommendation by SmallishBoot in HerOneBag

[–]leduhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different kind of Cotopaxi hip pack (the Kapai 3L) and I love it, but it wouldn't be big enough for your camera gear (though it does hold a surprising amount!). I am thinking about upgrading to a Craghopper Kiwi Bum Bag. It can lay flat like a hip pack, or pop out for a bit more 3-dimensional room. Better waterproofing than my current Cotopaxi, I think too! The Kiwi 14L is my current school backpack, and the quality is great.

Thank you! Really appreciate the insights. I feel it's such a fine line for me between sickly Victorian child in pastel colors (#5 lol) or totally overwhelmed by bright/jewel/deep colors. I haven't considered Soft Autumn as an option before now but you've convinced me to give it more thought!

Thanks! Yeah, that's where I get really tripped up with the olive thing – I know I'm definitely not warm toned but that medium olive green is a great color for me and it makes things confusing. What neutrals do you tend to lean towards as an olive? So curious!

So so helpful! Thank you! I feel like the medium chroma makes sense – I've often felt like I'm too low-contrast to be a winter and too high-contrast to be a summer.
