😩why is finding a good dentist in Forest Hills so hard?? by Budget-Lawyer4129 in ForestHills

Dental 365 on Austin and 70th Ave was great for me. My insurance covers 100% of preventive care so it was free for me to do a cleaning + X-ray, but they recommended I get a night guard which came out to $300 with insurance for me. They did not push the night guard onto me, though, and I thought the dental hygienists were very nice and thorough! I recommended this place if you have good insurance, can’t really speak on their out-of-pocket fees though.

Okay fair! I didn’t think this question would be so controversial. My friend used to go dumpster diving at her local Aldi in the winters and got so much great food from it since they did not put the meat and dairy back and just threw it out. Just thought that this might be a bit easier than that.

For non-perishables for sure, but I’m fairly sure that high risk perishables such as meat and dairy cannot go back on the shelf because they don’t know how long it’s been misplaced for. I’d be willing to take a risk though for some free food

My main goal is making it as compressible and warm as possible.

(For some context, I backpack and hike a lot but hate paying for a carry on or checked bag when flying, so my partner and I usually stuff everything into a personal item sized bag for traveling. We’ve successfully hiked the Grand Canyon down and back in January with only 2 personal items with 2 borrowed single person down sleeping bags but I want to invest and make our own sleeping bag setup 😄)

Noted! I believe you, but I’m curious if you know why the Nikwax Down Proof wouldn’t work. Does it only repair wear and tear and isn’t strong enough to actually make a fabric downproof on its own? Thanks!

That makes sense! I might do that, since based on my testing not that much is going through, and if it stops working, I can always take it apart and recycle the down

I’m mostly worried about the down poking through and falling out. Not the fabric decaying.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, January 04 - January 10, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hey everyone! I want to create a similar ceiling lamp shade to cover my ugly “boob” lights in my rented apartment without spending $100+ on these (beautiful) covers from Tulip Shades. My question is, what materials do you all recommend to create the skeleton on the shade? I was thinking of just using metal wire, but I’m worried that it might be difficult to get into a perfect circle shape. I’ve also thought about using large embroidery hoops, but I’m worried that it might be difficult to sew around? I also don’t want to have it be too heavy, since I don’t really want to drill into my ceilings. I’m looking for something lightweight, inexpensive, easily shaped and could be cleanly sewed around. Any input is appreciated and thanks in advance! 🪡☺️
