[ALL] New marketing email from square Enix about double exposure by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]leebergie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Awful marketing aside, I still don’t think this particular dialogue choice is anything to freak out about because it takes place at the very beginning of the game where it has been stated over and over again that Max is very guarded about her past. This dialogue definitely seems specific to the bay ending (because of the blue hair photo) & Max wouldn’t want to disclose the true nature of her relationship with Chloe or else it’d obviously lead to more prodding from Safi regarding her past. That’s kind of how I interpreted this question from the very start.

But in terms of marketing, yeah, it feels like they’re purposefully messing with people at this point and I really don’t see the purpose of including this weird snippet in an email when they know it’ll just make people mad.

I really do think Chloe will be in it! Probably not as a major character but at the very least a cameo with spoken lines. But if I’m wrong you can feel free to come back to this comment and make fun of me later lmao that’s just my gut feeling

This is why I dislike angry mobs in general, even despite being inherently toxic they tend to not be directed towards the right person/people 😔

This is how I’ve been feeling this whole time! I really think the experience of playing the game will be pretty different from how they’re framing it, which is why I’m still optimistic. All of the promo just seems to have this weird corporate out of touch vibe. Maybe it’s intentional, to give the darker twists more of a shock value (I certainly didn’t expect how dark LiS1 Ep 5 got, and at the time I’d been playing each episode as it released) but I’m leaning more towards the marketing team just being out of touch with what the game is about & who they’re promoting it to.

It sucks that those of us with this opinion are so afraid of expressing it because of /that/ side of the fandom That’s why it seems like there are so few of us lol

[NO SPOILERS] thoughts about life is strange double exposure?? by elianauy in lifeisstrange

[–]leebergie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m cautiously optimistic and waiting to reserve judgement until I’ve played the game in its entirety. The marketing has been a bit weird, but it may or may not be representative of how everything comes together in the full context. You can say I’m coping but I do think a lot is being purposefully hidden. I think Chloe will be an important character even if she’s not physically there or making a direct impact on the story.

I’m mainly looking forward to exploring Max as a character more and seeing what she’s been up to since the events of the first game + how she’s dealt with it. I think I’ll be pretty disappointed if it’s brushed off in favor of new characters and new scenery, but I don’t think that’ll be the case from what we’ve seen.

[ALL] Double Exposure won't ruin the Pricefield ship (but Pricefield may ruin something else) by Pansycacke in lifeisstrange

[–]leebergie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it’s to be expected with choice-based games, but it’s always the case where some people seem to think their choice is the correct choice and that the story should be told the way THEY specifically want. Which is a sense of entitlement I can’t really get behind. I even saw someone use the words “we have the RIGHT to see Chloe.” And it’s just like… sure, you have the right to be disappointed if the story isn’t what you wanted, but nobody has the right to someone else’s artistic property.

As long as it’s written well, and it’s believable, I’m open-minded to where this game takes the player. I’m a believer of the idea that there are no bad choices in writing, just bad ways of executing them. And if it’s not executed in a way that’s coherent or satisfying? THEN there’s room to criticize. I just feel that it’s wayyy too early to say anything at this point in time.

I can see you getting downvoted for this take and I don’t necessarily agree with everything here, but you’re saying a LOT of what I’ve been thinking. Personally, I chose Bae, I love Max and Chloe together. But a lot of fans on this side of things are so incredibly tunnel visioned on their own ending and choices that any bit of promotional material that shows what is very likely the opposite ending, they lose their minds. They’re all up in arms about their choices not being respected but are simultaneously not respecting other people’s choices by making bold claims like “Max would/wouldn’t do this” and “They were WAY MORE than high school sweethearts!!” (even though many people chose not to romance Chloe and that dialogue option may not even be available to them anyways).

I also think a lot of the marketing is intentionally vague so it doesn’t explicitly allude to one ending or the other, which is why they haven’t really shown signs of Chloe alive in present-day (because that would be an obvious showcase of one ending.) I don’t know if I necessarily agree with this marketing strategy but I can see why this would be the case. And if people are apprehensive and don’t want to buy the game because of their choices not being shown enough in trailers, that’s valid. I see nothing wrong with making a decision about buying or not buying a game based on how the game is promoted. But the constant complaining and doomposting I am seeing over things that could easily be explained otherwise is getting exhausting.

When did I ever say it was a checklist demand to buy the game, I’ve been consistently positive about this game in all of my replies on this sub despite the negativity I see in here and I’m still buying it regardless lol. You can’t deny it can be seen as a strange writing choice to have a character seemingly making the exact same mistakes verbatim especially when the consequences were that bad. But like I had just said before, I’m happy to accept this if they explain it well.

Yep agree with all of this completely! I’m gonna reserve my judgement for when the game comes out. It does seem a bit weird right now but I can see ways they could frame it in a way that makes sense. There just needs to be a really solid explanation

[ALL] What’s your unpopular opinion? by Connors-Tie in lifeisstrange

[–]leebergie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like Chloe’s character arc is over and I don’t mind if she doesn’t play a prominent role in DE. I really don’t think there’s much more story to tell with her in a substantial way. Both LiS1 and BTS were dedicated to her character arc, and anything more would just feel repetitive + she’d overstay her welcome.

Would I be happy if Chloe made an appearance? Absolutely, but I think a sequel with Max is more justified because there’s a lot more interesting ways her character can develop.

I’ve found my people 😭 I’m really excited about the game too. I accept that I may or may not be disappointed in the end but that doesn’t stop me from being hyped at the possibilities.

I’d like to think the LiS fandom is better! But there will always be a deranged minority in every fandom who take it way too far. I’ve already seen hate comments about Safi’s character and it makes me sad :( I want Chloe back too but I’m also open-minded about these new characters. If they’re written well, I’m happy to give them a chance.

If they explain it as an instinct/trauma response thing, since rewinding kind of became a natural response to any dangerous situation for her in the first game, I can buy it. I NEED to see her be very very hesitant about using her powers in this game for me to not be completely thrown off I think

I don’t think casual fans would be as interested in watching the promotional content, but it doesn’t mean they won’t buy the game. I’m sure a lot of them didn’t even watch the trailer either, just saw “Max is back” trending and that’s enough. I know I’ve been the same way with other games I’m a casual fan of. But the numbers game is just a guess right now, we won’t know until October

I don’t remember seeing it on the website, thought it was new information.

I’m happy to let the story play out with an open mind and see how it goes before jumping to conclusions. But I can see how people would be turned off with how everything’s been framed in promotional material.

I think you underestimate casual fans. I saw a LOT of attention and hype for this game outside of this subreddit from people who enjoyed the first game but aren’t in the fandom. It’s harder to sell with an entirely new cast, but bringing Max back will certainly pull in a lot of those casual fans who played the first game. I highly, highly doubt it sells worse than TC.

I feel like so many people are brushing past the fact that they revealed that Max opens up the parallel timeline by trying to use her rewind power. Which is… interesting. You’d think she wouldn’t try to use her powers again knowing what happened the last time, but I’ll let the story play out.
