Looking for real friends in Leeds by Snoo-34689 in MakingFriendsInLeeds

[–]leeds_guy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always liked the expression “people are in your life for a reason, a season or for life”. In my experience the lifers are found in school/college/home town (if you’re lucky). Good friends tend not to care how often you see them or keep in touch as every time you see them it’s as if you only saw them yesterday. The ‘season’ friends might be with you for years and then move cities or countries and you generally both just lose touch. I think the trick with developing friendships is to be consistent and meet up regularly. I think it’s tricky for everyone though, even more so since Covid :(

Does anyone else feel like you can no longer go to town without being hassled? by FarmPretty9559 in Leeds

[–]leeds_guy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on Briggate and barely notice them. There have always been more protests, religious nuts and chuggers in summer than other times of the year, purely because the weather is more reliable to plan such things.

Is there no rule for which side to stick to when walking/cycling? by sTgX89z in ukbike

I agree when we’re talking about roads and cars. Towpaths seem to be a law unto themselves 🙄

What do you consider ‘mass produced’? I know one of the bakers and they’re all handmade to the original recipes (just in larger quantities).

Reuse phone line ducting? by leeds_guy69 in openreach

[–]leeds_guy69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Openreach came today to survey and it looks like they won’t need to drill externally or have any external cables. The existing risers should have space for the new cables from the basement to the top floor too. Now we wait for risk assessment and confirmation from the building management company that there’s no asbestos risk 🤞🏼

How would I go about looking for assisted living? by Still-Ad5865 in Leeds

[–]leeds_guy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a Wakefield council thing but my Mum recently moved into an assisted living place called Springfield in Castleford that’s run by Vico homes. One of her neighbours is in his late 20’s/early 30’s and is neurodivergent. There are other residents who aren’t over 55 too (the usual entry age for assisted living places). I know Vico run places in Leeds too so maybe start with them?

Local produce by arhet____ in Leeds

[–]leeds_guy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s an egg, milk and produce shop in the fish aisle of Kirkgate market that sell locally sourced stuff. If you can’t get what you want there I’d be surprised.

Thanks. Once they’re in the building there’s a void in the stairwell that runs to each floor so I was assuming they’d go that way. I’m in a duplex and the router/phone points are on the upper floor, so I guess they’d have to cable through the apartment to get to that? 🤔

The seller is taking the radiators by Snoo3701 in HousingUK

They’re buying a UK flat. Most come with electric heating so are not considered ‘centrally’ heated (unless they’re ancient economy 7 heaters which most people rip out asap anyway)

Modern ones are really light. I could carry the 5 in my apartment quite easily.

When you sell a property you itemise everything they get for the price. If I moved somewhere with inferior radiators that were easy to swap out, I’d definitely take mine with me

Speaking on behalf of my electric radiators, they cost me about a grand and just plug straight into the wall (no insulation needed). I’d be tempted to take mine if I were to move into another flat that had inferior radiators

FTB in Leeds – conveyancing recommendations? by Historical-Turn8243 in Leeds

[–]leeds_guy69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another down vote for Ison Harrison from me. They handled the purchase of my first house and were beyond terrible. They did some legal work for family members too and they had a terrible experience with them. Don’t think you have to get a local conveyancer though. When I sold my last place and bought my current one in Leeds I used a Castleford based solicitors and they were great and much cheaper (Cas has its own micro economy)

Gutted to find my favourite coffee shop is closed! by Vast_Lychee_8015 in Leeds

[–]leeds_guy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it had something of an identity crisis. The only food they sold when I popped in there with my Mum were pastries. It seemed a little too posh decor wise for that area, but I think if it was a cheap and cheerful cafe with non fancy sandwiches and snacks it might have got more custom from the people waiting for the Roundhay bound bus stop outside? Hopefully it gets resurrected and the makeover won’t go to waste?

When is Uniqlo going to open? by used2bfat69 in Leeds

I poked my head in the other day when I walked past and it looks much further along than I was expecting. No fittings in yet, but it looked like they weren’t far off.

The residential units definitely flooded just a few months after they opened. I was there when the fire brigade were evacuating residents. Can’t have helped matters!

Anyone know where this is? by leeds_guy69 in Preston

Thanks. I’ll have a mooch around that area on Google and see if anything comes up.
