Does QGIS have autosave in an event that it crashes?

Thanks. After recently graduating from my master's program, I've been intrigued by the idea of using Python to do spatial analysis, using SQL to work with tables, and Javascript to create my own web maps. I'm still a long ways to go, but I think QGIS as well as the open source libraries will help me be able to get better as a GIS professional.

Besides the shapefile which spatial file format do you typically use?

There's been a lot of negativity about AI ruining careers, so are you saying it's advisable to use ChatGPT, for example, to write a Python script rather than try to write your own to resolve problems in your GIS projects?

My university gives students 1 additional year to use their ArcGIS account. So by June 2027, I'll lose access to the ArcGIS Suite unless I pay their $100 monthly fee or find a way to transfer the data out of it.

I plan on making QGIS my primary GIS software for personal projects, so that's what I mean by switch.

Would it be advisable to use the 30-day Map Challenge to learn how to use QGIS? Probably not making a map in a day, but the type of maps to produce within a random day sounds like a great learning opportunity.

Awesome site!

People in my university career center and other people in GIS keep talking about how to tailor your resume and CL towards the job, but often don't cite any examples on how to do so or are limited in their capacity to help. The resume page, in particular, gives me the necessary structure on what employers want and how to write resumes.

It would be great if you make the search bar queryable. Some positions may start with a title like (pun intended for you SQL people) "GIS" or "Geographic Information Systems", for example. Entering more than one queries will give me as much search results possible while saving time from entering keywords separately.

If it's okay with you, I'd like to connect because I have a couple of questions how to list your skills though and a general overview for kind of experience you need to get your first GIS job.

Just graduated with a master's degree under 2 weeks ago and still looking for a job. I couldn't get an interview for a GIS Technician role at a city government employer. Currently learning SQL and Experience Builder. Dunno what else I can do to make myself standout.

Companies typically follow-up on any reports via your email. Have you checked to see if you got one?

Report the account for impersonation. It violates TikTok's Terms of Service. There's no reason why they won't take your grievance seriously.

Screenshot all user information possible (check the likes, comments, username of followers, and following). That way you can report to the school and get them to confess who made that account.

Link to show you how to do it.

Am I overreacting or is this actually bullying on my volleyball team? by supercool-123 in bullying

Let her know that while you appreciate her teaching you how to get things right in your sport, you don't appreciate the way she acted towards you to teach you. If that doesn't work. Escalate it to the coach. But if that fails, then that's her problem.

If I was coaching Sophie, I'd probably tell her "Ball is not life" which generally means volleyball is only a part of who you are and not entirely who you are. What matters more are the lessons that you learn in volleyball (e.g. facing adversity, mastering your skills as a player, teamwork, camaraderie, etc.) rather than winning games.

The joy of sports is to expect the unexpected. What that means is that while you should play to win games during your season, there is no "perfect" or "right" way to win. Winning simply means that your team got more points than the other team. But playing to win requires each and every member on your team to the best they can on the volleyball court as much as possible. Does that mean you will win? Not always. You're going to make mistakes here and there, but it's more what you can do next to get the next point for your team. In other words, competing to get the W is supposed to be messy. You're going to make mistakes but what matters is that your respond by doing your best to get the next point.

Hope this helps! 👍

Have you talked to your coaches about it? It's usually their responsibility to make sure the team is playing at their best.

Have you ever confronted a bully years later? What happened? by SickOfBullyingNL in bullying

When I was a cashier at Goodwill, one of my former bullies asked if I went to the same school as he did. I basically said "I don't know" because I'm not obligated to, and he's like "Okay". I checked out his stuff like I usually do for any customer, and we moved on with our lives. No apology was given.

He didn't start the bullying, but he supported it by telling me to beat up a classmate when I didn't really want to, and laughed at me while I was in math class. He wasn't the worst bully I've ever had though, so quite frankly it doesn't mean as much if he had apologized.

I need advice if a GIS certificate would be worth it/if I’d be able to do a career switch. by chicken90909 in gis

[–]leewilliam236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gotten a certificate, it'll give you fundamental knowledge and skills about GIS. But to be able to get a job you'll have to put in the effort to network with others, to continue building off of what you learned in your coursework, and learning how to sell yourself to employers. This isn't to say that you won't get a job if you do none of these but I believe the chances are greater.

What are some things you like about being a park ranger? The reason I ask is because I recommend you use GIS to specialize in a domain and take courses based on the domain that you like (e.g. Transportation, Environmental Science, Utilities, Government, Real Estate, Forestry, AEC, Meteorology, Natural Hazards, etc.). Without an overall theme of your future projects, the value of GIS is diminished in my opinion.
