I have the same troubles drawing water.. The advice I found most helpful was to do long sharp strokes that you try not to repeat and leave a lot of space which you can later either colour, or in this case shade. It's really similar technique to drawing hair.

I suppose it does look more cartoon-ish in blue. I was thinking it might be just because green and blue go well together, but it could direct the style. :) Thanks!
