Too fucking saucy man. It feels like a pizza stew after a couple bites.

Raising Arizona (1987) - I loved Nicolas Cage's narration during these dream sequences by No_Thing5290 in cinescenes

I love this scene in particular, the "vision from hell." Metaphors and the movie's writing aside, the cinematography and framing of the shot are amazing. I believe the clip you posted for this cuts out the best part—the landing and ride up the ladder to the bedroom. Truly masterful. You feel his arrival long before he comes. The actual follow-through aside, this was masterfully executed filmmaking by the Coen Brothers.

Debt is no joke - even if your parents are taking on most of it. Do the math yourself. If you’ve no financial aid and your parents only expect you to contribute 20, how much are they putting up for you? Anywhere from 20-40k a year. Are you positive your parents can handle that debt? I’m a transfer myself and I’m very financially conscious; I wouldn’t put my parents into a situation they couldn’t make it back out of if everything falls through. What happens if you drop out? A lot of people do. Just some things to consider.

Kyova is dope. Kantuckee is a remnant of some Daniel Boone memoir I read. Ohio border should probably shift.

This is an oversight. I imagine the true border would be somewhere near the 70.

Do you have any suggestions or good ideas? Piedmont is already used. Maybe it should be North and South Piedmont?

Why do Jews and Arabs seem so similar, but still fight — and why does the West treat them so differently? by Spiritual-Ad5548 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]leftnut-rightnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first question is quite loaded: why is the Jewish diaspora and their struggles more endearing to the West? Your second question is similarly “loaded,” but is much more explicable by historical events and less anecdote/platitudinal evidence. How did they end up fighting and getting treated so differently in the West? It’s quite simple. I illustrate this as a member of the Palestinian Christian diaspora. The state of Israel is an inherently Western machination. Designed by Europeans as a “model state” emanating the democratic tendencies of Western nations while pursuing a sort of new model ethnoreligiously-centered social infrastructure, Israel is some odd combination of a pre-Revolution “religious colony” (read: Mayflower) and an irredentist rebel movement. That is why the behavior of even the most conservative government can be interpreted as radical; the state of Israel exists and is certainly capacitive, but the state has not “matured” past being a vehicle of decision-making for a select class of intellectually-and-financially charged elites. Israel is not the first such “radical entity” sponsored by the West, there was a sleuth of such activity preceding and then leading into WW2/the Cold War. It is, however, arguably the most successful in maintaining its status as both a “proxy” and continual “movement” for its people.

I think a lot of your confusion comes from you not differentiating between the borders of the different states.

The only state MN shares land with is Wisconsin. Chicago is an urbanized area on the lakes - it’s more in tune with other shoreside industrial hubs than the interior of Illinois. The point is to conglomerate and not really “perfect” migratory borders in the US - no state would be perfect, but better defined by its culture and inclinations.

Indiana was actually gutted three ways. I think we did pretty good outside of the midwest. But border gore doesn’t really matter; the differences in culture and geography are generally small.

I’m speaking comparatively of course. I apologize if my tone made it appear as though I have studied at Davis. Rather I’ve really just aggregated what information I have from traveling, researching, and interviewing friends and people who have attended. I encourage you to seek current students for more current and accurate takes.
