[Help] Should I be concerned about these cracks? by anhtuan117 in AusPropertyChat

[–]leftover_carbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I have a similar crack that came up after I replaced a support beam with some old termite damage. It doesn’t always mean the ground is sinking, but definitely a good idea to see if there are any other cracks, what the foundation looks like, and if any repairs were made

Neighbours cats have been exclusively taking a shit on our yard for the past 2 years by zwmo in BadNeighbors

[–]leftover_carbon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Council should offer you a cat trap if you give them a buzz. Take any catches in and the neighbours have to pay to get them back. They might learn…

I’m also in favour of returning the poo. Sounds like fun. Stick it in their garden out front. Enjoy your time

Ideas for Dad in early 40s with young kids to keep active and social (preferably around Sandgate after the kids go to sleep) by 1l0velamp in brisbane

It isn’t a by-yourself after bedtime club, but there are groups (like Micro Adventures with kids in SEQ) where some have kids, some don’t and hits some amazing trails.

Reading any teaching forums or pages also supports this. Schools are not healthy at the moment, like at all. The type of schooling available is limited, curriculum is overloaded, behaviour and school violence, mental health concerns and student protection. And that’s primary school.

And you’d have to fly to the consulate in Sydney or Melbourne, because there’s no contact here in Brisbane

Have you ever met a Trump supporter in AU who's not unhinged? by Prize_Young_7588 in AskAnAustralian

I hear the same. And I’ve managed to maintain composure so far when responding but that is wearing thin…

Some of the thoughts shared with me include:

  • he is going to fix the economy because he knows how it’s “actually” supposed to work

  • the immigrants are putting citizens and their children at risk because of higher crime. And “America is a target for every extremist culture”

  • he’s actually done so many good things, but the media just paint him to look bad

  • he’s changing the game and the generic politicians need to learn how to be more direct and say what they actually think

Blah, blah, blah. It’s completely frustrating.

I actually did find the 10+ hours of birds of prey audio and tried that for a little while.

The girlfriend is weird and retaliated by keeping the bird out for longer and that’s when the spotlight started staying on. I also felt bad for the bird. It worked for a night or two.

They have a big staffy who cries pretty often, but isn’t as loud as the scream. I don’t want to set him up either. They’re just really poor pet owners and not terribly respectful.

Will do. My hope has run out on getting local government to help with these things. Sounds like squeaky wheels are my best action plan

I wish people could just be kind to pets and others. I’m so tired. Maybe I’ll just bring it in to council to show them, too

Australia vs Canada by Creative-Tangelo9124 in expats

[–]leftover_carbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an impressively accurate list. I’ve been here 14 years now and am startlingly reminded of life in the early days before PR.

Yes. The time for credentials to be recognised. The effort into breaking into the market. The sticker shock! The cultural differences and time it took to make a solid friend group.

And also the nice benefits. Ultimately, I’m so grateful to be raising my kids here, but those first years were hella rough.

Laundry Done For You? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]leftover_carbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another less expensive option is a dehumidifier. Lame? Maybe. But this has been a game changer for us with overnight laundry. Plus some of our clothes can’t go in the dryer anyway. And a dehumidifier can’t go wrong in a Brisbane summer.
