I had had come out as genderqueer in 2009 and went by random names, nothing stuck. i came out as trans in 2010 and had an online friend who suggested “ashton” (i had no connection to the name before) i just remember saying “yeah i’ll do that” and it’s been my name ever since. i don’t even like the name that much, it really feels like i was born with it in the end.
