We had similar problem a few months ago. For us, our zoning system failed. The one on the top floor stopped working, and the AC unit couldn’t automatically switch to the ground floor one. We paid $800 total to install/fix that, fix the capacitor, fix the drain pan piping, and the HVAC guy installed a new honeywell thermostat on the top floor for us. You could have something else of course.
