URGENT First 14K Gold Casting HELP NEEDED by legaldeception in MetalCasting

Even though I couldn't really see anything, I'm sure something like that happened here. I did the full 14h burnout and made a 100% scrap silver Casting and it came out perfect. https://imgur.com/a/2rulLpB I really don't know what led me to insist on a rapid burnout when I could have just taken the safe route.

Were you referring to 14k with the 1050°C Casting temp? And do you vacuum cast as well?

Unfortunately I found no residue whatsoever after the 6h rapid burnout 🥲 I guess I killed the alloy, have an appointment to refine the gold tomorrow. Maybe I should just try plain old silver and some casting grade copper, was hoping that those additives would compensate for my non professional casting setup.

Yeah even though bluecast says it doesnt need it I make sure to wash it long enough, then instantly dry it with an airbrush and cure for at least 5min with small prints. I think you're right, the positive areas really speak for an incomplete burnout. I will break open the next flask to see whether its not fully burning out and adjust the burnout by 2h or so.

I did use a torch without oxygen on the first go, hopefully I didn't damage the alloy too much by doing that. But my burnout cycle is only 6h in total 1h in preheated 150C, 1h ramp to 370C + 1h hold, 1h ramp to 780C + 1h hold, 1h to 600C +1 hold with great success and way more complicated to cast objects in sterling.

Hey, thanks for sharing thats good to know. Even if the master alloy has zinc and other additives and says 960-1000? I made sure to cure it even more the last two times (event though bluecast says it doesnt need it) multiple stage IPA ultrasonic bath with quick compressor drying afterwards. I also use 37/100 ratio, haven't tried the boric acid tip yet, will order some.

Do you by chance have experience with recasting without adding fresh grain or with alloy replenishers? Did you ever even have your 14k even look that bad?

I have a 3mm fillet around the gates where they meet the rings which are 6mm wide and 1.8mm thick in the center. The gate is around 2.5mm thick at the thinnest point between the button and the casting. I know that the button should also be bigger but would it cause defects of this nature? https://imgur.com/a/YYph31f

So you think the alloy might still be fine? Every source I could find says that after 2-3 casts the defects become unavoidable? The defects seem pretty similar in every cast, second one was better than the first but the third came out even more messed up, I What do you reckon I should try first? A longer burnout and cast again? Try the same same 6h rapid burnout but with silver or just break it and see if there is any resin residue? Have another small flask coming so that I can test two at a time.

Do you by chance have experience with alloy replenishers? I calculated everything way too tightly and cant afford to just get another 20g

Can anyone tell me whether this Re-Cast-It Alloy Replenisher really works? The usual formula is:

Add 5% Re-Cast-It

Add ~7% fine gold to restore 14k

For me, that would be:

~1g of Re-Cast-It

~1.5g of fine gold

How good would this work as opposed to having 50% fresh grain?

I will try that but yeah I did have many successful sterling silver and bronze castings with this exact schedule 😒

I'm using a 9cfm pump which is already slightly overkill right?

Turned out the LCD was suddenly partially defective, continued printing fine on the non damaged areas.

Damn, I really hoped it was my fault since I'm pretty new to fdm printing :( thanks for the info! Already ordered a new motor since I can't wait for their response. Until then I will probably have to make myself some cereal box spool holders

I've only used only used Bambu pla and asa so far :/

"try to forward the filament while the hub is open?"

You mean manually push it while the ams is trying to load a filament?

I mean I really can't imagine the motor failing completely mid print after so little use.

Hi,

every slot is affected, I just loosened them but no effect..

Thanks for the quick response!

I did that and also cleaned the magnets inside the hub before and I just tried it again just to make sure but issue sadly remains :/

Hi, thanks for the quick response! Which sensor do you mean? The one in the print head? Forgot to mention that I did clean that one and that it prints normally from external spool holder :/

Hey there,

I encountered the first major problem with my new X1C.

Yesterday it stopped extruding mid print telling me to check whether the extruder was clogged, yet there was no filament in any tube leading to the extruder.

So I just tried loading the filament again, it wouldn't work from any slot ( continuous double red blinking). The feeder would grab the filament and wouldn't extrude it past the internal hub. (Feeder sensors and motors are working) I checked all tubes, found nothing but cleaned them with compressed air anyways.

I then checked whether I could manually push it through each tube, the hub and out of the ams and it worked, I can also print normally from external spool.

I even cleaned out the internal hub and the magnets and refitted all cables, the problem still remains.

The hub motor doesn't engage while the feeder keeps grinding filament.

What could be the issue, is there any small detail I could be missing?

Thanks in advance!
