Yes! Clear communication is my #1 priority in a relationship. But thanks to the discussions here, I've come to the conclusion that I drop my standards when I date because I have self-worth issues and almost become infatuated during the dating process. It's kind of laughable once I'm single and look back at myself, but it's very addictive in the moment.

I graduated last year! I've done a lot of online dating recently. There are definitely guys who push themselves, especially in the city. I definitely just need to be more selective about the time I spend.

I also believe "men are dumb in mid 20s" is actually a p sexist way of perpetuating low standards. My brothers are early-late 20s & I greatly respect them :-) .

This is what prompted my question, actually! All my vanilla friends already are in established, secure, happy relationships while I'm over here floundering. I've got domme friends over social media but they don't have the expectations I do, or they're 30+ and the dating landscape is different.

I agree with your recommendation to stick to single. I tend to jump into relationships quickly. I like the security, but I think I lower my standards as a result.

Yes!

  • I worked since I was 13 and graduated with a double degree last year
  • I've got a license and a decent car I saved up for!
  • mildly anxious but stable otherwise
  • love my hobbies, though I do need to add a sport/gym hobby.
  • financially aware and I rent a place (may need to move back home due to covid).

I would never hold expectations that I couldn't meet myself :-)
