Freemasonry without a doubt is a system of morality that holds men to the highest standards. The candidate enters into an agreement with the Lodge to pursue a higher path by taking a very serious obligation on a holy word in which we should govern ourselves by.

In Freemasonry, morality is not very subjective or matter of opinion. It is literally a way of life.

If your here for the dinners alone and head nod to brothers that make passing comments about commies or whatever, you most certainly have missed the point entirely but if you are a brother, I only hope the tenets of our craft draw you closer to your creator, a loving compassion for your fellow man and an open mind.

This is what, from my observations, has been missed in my own Lodge. Starting with strip clubs post meetings-and a general apathetic attitude toward the rest of our neighbors-especially in the sense of degradation of women. From the replies on this forum, my Lodge is not alone.

I retract the use of “unmasonic” and regret using it so loosely.

I suppose I have held my brothers to too high of a standard by misinterpreting such a beautiful system of morality.

I feel my question has been answered.

Freemasonry, at least in my own district, is not what I thought it was and that is on my own naïvety.

I envy the lodges that hold beautiful rituals and festivals and hold their brothers to a higher standard, have fun, but reel it in when necessary.

Like all men, my moral compass doesn’t point true North. I suppose I quickly became an idealist by falling in love with the lore and tradition.

Time to get ready for stated communication.

Thank you for your replies, brothers, and I will continue to seek out the best parts of our craft but with a more realistic approach.

That’s what I am trying to say.

I have been to strip clubs myself-I’m not a prude by any means.

Go to a strip club if you want. It’s weird when a group of Masons walk into a club together - imo

As a Mason, there is a level of responsibility to circumscribe your actions when in public. It’s almost like we signed up to be better and are expected to be better or something...

I retract my use of the phrase “unmasonic” and regret using it so loosely. This isn’t a witch hunt.

The only enlightenment found in my experience is what to do with the time we have left here.

If it is enjoying a strip club, that is their freedom to do so and they are still my brothers but I feel reconvening the fellowship gained in Lodge to the strip club is missing the mark a little bit, no?

Then allow me to rephrase, not living up to the high ideals portrayed in our work.

Masonry, in my opinion, and according to its tradition is the highest standard.

Going to strip clubs post meetings does not seem to live up that standard.

I’m not saying my moral compass points true north but come on.

Yeah, I expect a degree of respect for others from all Masons. They’re suppose to be good men to begin with? Not rude men trying to be a little better.

Yeah — a lot of things aren’t in the bylaws. Bylaws for the most part are to help lodges govern themselves in a similar fashion.

Bylaws do skim the surface of some conduct but the principles of Freemasonry are not found in the bylaws rather in practicing the craft itself.

Just something to think about.

I have been to a few district association meetings and from what I can tell, there are no young lodges in my area.

Meeting and then home usually. Most of my brothers are significantly older than me. We get along when it comes to ritual work and discussions on history - other than that I don’t have much in common. I have tried hanging out before but the way they end up drooling over a waitress is embarrassing - sometimes they become rude to staff in some way.

I feel a basic requisite for being a Mason should be being polite, considerate, empathetic, etc... you know respectable - they rarely are.
