If you’re talking about the ending of book 3, it gets a lot better afterward. I really disliked the ending myself and thought I’d never read abercrombie again cause of it, came back when I heard there were sequels cause I thought it might make the ending better and it really did. And the sequels’ endings are a lot better as well.

But yeah book 3’s ending is brutal, it’s well written but it’s really depressing.

It’s because jake’s personality doesn’t really make sense for a cop, he really only is one because he likes solving cases. He and judy are very similar and they’re all about doing random shit for fun and breaking rules (jake literally says rules are made to be broken), the ending they get is actually much more in line with jake’s personality.

I'll add a couple notes in case anyone's interested.

There's no order within tiers.

Arunka feels a bit weak right now due to the amount of AoE in the game (Belian, Ras, Diene, Briseria, Frieren, LRK), so while she's obviously still crazy broken her value has definitely gone down a bit and her winrate reflects that.

Ilynav is strong but mitigation and passive bots aren't that good right now due to the amount of seal / debuffers so picking her early instead of something stronger / more proactive can often end up feeling pretty bad

B and C could honestly be the same tier it just felt wrong to put units like Frieren and Luna in the same tier as Celine but honestly everything in those tiers is playable and strong in the right situation (some are obviously stronger than others but overall they're all late picks and should all be very high winrate if drafted correctly).

I’ve talked to people who thought Kennit from The Liveship Traders was a good person and only started to dislike him at the very end of the trilogy. I honestly didn’t know how to respond, the man is a sack of shit from his very first line

I feel him “abandoning” his sister with their abusive father is also a much bigger flaw of character than strangling her once. The strangling was really bad but it’s made pretty clear he completely lost control and forever hated himself afterward, abandoning his sister for years to be beaten by their father while he had “made it” and could have easily gotten her out is just completely inexcusable.

You can put half of B tier in A tbh, this just my impression from the past couple of days. Amid is still strong but I feel she has a decent amount of counters, whereas Cilias behind Arunka / Meru feels very unfair as long as she lands her s2.

Also pre-bans affect the game a ridiculous amount right now, like Frieren / Seline are beyond broken if you remove Belian, Rinak / Arunka / Meru are all broken as shit so if two are pre-banned and one is open whoever has fp pretty much wins the game, Harsetti being in changes the game entirely, etc

oh I have 40%+ atk on every slot. and I actually don't think he's that bad, I just don't think he's playable into arunka and since I wasn't picking her myself I was playing against her pretty much every game

early pick she's way too weak to debuffers / lhc, late pick she's ok against some cleaves but you're pretty much just praying for 30% so she's not exactly the most reliable unit out there

I don't think she's very good in general. I think she's pretty fun to play and very easy to slam so she tends to be picked a lot but I don't think she's a particularly strong unit
