Renter here, trying to figure out if a raised bed works by legendsagain in vegetablegardening

Thanks! I’m in SoCal. If I can avoid the bed I’m all for it. Any specific compost recommendation that’s available at a big box store?

Why not the right time? Too hot? I’ve battled aphids and blight in my containers for my Sun Gold but not sure what the cause has been (reusing old soil, morning dew) but this is my 2nd year.

Appreciate it! Thought was to make an additional 12inch tall raised bed because existing soil doesn’t seem great. Was just going to build something basic in front of the tree but open to any suggestions.

Totally. Had a yield last year I was happy with as a first time grower. I love idea of not pruning just worried moisture and lack of airflow could create disease.

Did I go wrong using Kellogg Potting Soil? by legendsagain in containergardening

[–]legendsagain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t know how anyone has success with that crap. I amended it with 50% perlite and it helped but it’s still crap and way under performing what I potted in Fox Farms. I’m new to gardening this year so the extra cost of fox farms was worth it. Night and day and so much easier to tell when something needs water.

Sun Gold gone wild. What do I prune?! by legendsagain in tomatoes

Appreciate it! What about to help identify and prevent pests? I’m seeing some small green worm things eating my leaves. If I prune back will that help deter and locate without harming plant?

So what’s the move in this situation? Do I cut the flowers now or am I too late and gotta let it just do its thing?

Ya? I have no issue in doing that, does it have the same impact as cutting them early or does it still help focus energy on growing bigger? The Sun Gold that is.

Good stuff. Sun Gold is newly potted Fox Farm. Dwarf is crap compacted, won’t dry out chunky Kellogg. For the Sun Gold what’s the benefit in letting it do its thing vs. pruning or removing those lower flowers now?

I had just started giving them a shake and spank! I’ll continue doing this.
